Monday's Front Porch Visit - Charles Stanley

Southern Grace

Come on over and join me on the front porch for our Monday visit!

When I was growing up, my southern Father had a difficult time finding a decent church for our family in Massachusetts. He was the son of a rural Alabama revival preacher. He and his brother were also street preachers. When he married my mother and moved to New England, the religious culture was very different.

When Pastor Charles Stanley starting broadcasting his sermons each Sunday night, it became our regular routine to sit together in the living room and watch the program. I loved Stanley's sermons. As a teenager, however, my only problem with watching was that it came on late at night and I had to get up early the next day for school.

Years ago, when visiting my older brother (in another state), I noticed he was watching Stanley on television and I was amazed! It had become a routine to watch this great saint teach and preach God's word.

Over this past weekend, I listened to a sermon on CD, while I slowly cleaned my kitchen. I wanted to hear every single word! Sometimes, I will find some cleaning project to do, just so I can listen to a sermon while I work!

Last night, at 8 pm, I watched Pastor Stanley on television. John (13) sat with me. He played quietly while he listened. I worked on a hand-sewing project and enjoyed every moment.

You can listen to sermons for Free online if you go to In Touch Ministries. I'd love to know who your favorite Preacher is. Won't you come on over to my front porch for some tea and brownies, while we talk about Spiritual matters?

Presently, my favorite preacher is Pastor Joey Faust of kingdombaptist.org. He is a King James Bible only teacher. I was missing my previous favorite- recently deceased Pastor David Meyer of lasttrumpetministries.org when I found Pastor Faust through jesus-is-lord.com. Pastor Meyer's free/donation DVD on the King James Bible is great. -Taryn

We also watch Charles Stanley from time to time. Around here, he comes on at 10 am. So, if we miss church for any reason or are in between churches, we always watch Charles Stanley. He is a great preacher! He amazes me because he doesn't appear to use any notes or outline!

another FAVORITE of mine is John McArthur! He is right on!!! He boldly speaks the truth and gives the meat of the Bible when so many are just giving out watered down milk at best.

Oh I so enjoyed reading your memories of Charles Stanley sermons and the resources you suggested. I am currently studying Charles Stanley's Landmines in the Path of the Believer with my Sunday School class. Lots of challenges and encouragement.

I have read and given away(in my home-school giveaway boxes through the years) John MacArthur's books but one book I'll keep is The Truth War(2007). Our Sufficiency in Christ was another good book of his.
