The Early Morning Writing

Spanish Moss Draped Tree and Small House in Morning Mist

Years ago, I read the autobiography of Mary Higgins Clark. She was a widow with 5 small children, and a writer. She would get up every single day at 5 am and write for 2 hours, before her family was awake. Then she would stop for the day and take care of everyone. I have always been inspired by that.

Sometimes I worry that the sound of my typing will wake everyone up. I try so hard to be quiet. I love the silence and darkness in the early morning. I love to start a fresh new day with great plans and ideas. I want to clean and play games with the children. I want to be cheerful and happy and pleasant. I don't want to be rushed or hurried or pulled in all kinds of directions. I love the idea of being wide awake with a welcoming smile when the noises and stirrings of family begins to echo throughout the house.

Now is the perfect time to read the bible. I will have some hot tea and sit in my favorite chair. I will read and pray for awhile. It will bring me courage and strength and peace. I need that right now. I am a little shaky and flustered from the activities of the last few days. I need my morning quiet. I love my time for the early morning writing.

May your day be lovely and beautiful. May your heart be filled with peace and joy.

Mrs. White, may you have strength and peace this day! You are beginning the day the right way, with bible reading and prayer. ♥

What a lovely post. I could just feel the serenity of early morning. I love the sound of birds singing in the morning as they chorus in the new day. I am such a sleepyhead in the morning that I miss this brief reprieve from the world. It's a gift from the Lord each and every day~
Bless you and greetings from New Zealand

I love to do my writing in the early morning, too. I often dream at night and some of the ideas I use for fiction. I also wake up with fresh insight when I am editing or revising.
I don't have to worry about waking anyone up typing! Actually, computer keyboard typing is pretty quiet, so I doubt if your snoozing teenagers would even notice.

Mary Higgins Clark is one of my favorite authors. I had read the same thing about her, and I was inspired, too. Do you write fiction?

What a neat story about Mary Higgins Clark! My MIL used to read her books and I have one here, but I have never read them. Are they good/worthwhile reading? anyway, her story is inspiring!!!

I also LOVE the early morning quiet time before my household wakes up! I'd like to hear more about your special morning time. do you have a routine that you follow every day? What time do you get up? What time do you get your children up? do you go to bed before your teens at night so you can get up early the next morning?

I hope you have a peaceful day tomorrow! Youer blog always inspires me!

I find that if I don't get up early and read the scriptures, I don't get it done and the day doesn't go as well. It is a great way to start the day and invite God into my life, and selfishly, I have a better day that way!

I like to get up early to get the house ready for my family...turn on the lights, turn up the heat, let out the dog, set up the coffee pot and be ready to start breakfast and then sit down with my Bible. When the family gets up the house is already warm and lit up and they know 'someone is here'. It's a hard thing to rise to a cold, dark house and then go out into the world with it's temptations and trials, so it's the best thing I can do to start my family off on the right foot. My husband often misses me when I get up too early and will come stumbling out to join me!

My mother suffered from a little bit of depression when I was growing up, and I would sometimes get home from school in the winter and the house would be dark and she would be sitting in the dark waiting for me to get home. That's not the way she usually was, so I appreciate the effort she made to make it nice and welcoming for us.

I had a friend years ago who would get depressed and find it hard to get out of bed and would sometimes let her little ones wander around until she was able to get up at about 10:00 a.m. Her husband had to get himself off to work with whatever he could find for breakfast and would get up to a cold, dark house. I think she was able, after time, to get up earlier and 'open the house' for her family and that made a lot of difference in the rest of their day.

My husband has dementia now, at a relatively young age, and the peaceful serenity of routines and schedules and warmth and light is very good for him. And getting my scripture reading in, as stated by some of the other ladies, is the best thing I can do for me, too!
