See the Light - The Gift of Love DVD - Review and Giveaway

Product - The Gift of Love DVD Christmas story and Art lesson

Publisher - See the Light

Suggested Ages - Story section: 3 and up.   Art lessons: 6 and up.

I watched this program with my 13 year old son, John. There are two main sections of the DVD:

1. Story -
The narrator has a calming, engaging voice, which reminded John of the Adventures in Odyssey program. Viewers will see chalk illustrations as the story is told. This is a nice feature.

2. Art Lessons-
These seem long, but are thorough. Viewers will get fresh new ideas and can follow right along with the instructor. We just used whatever art supplies we had on hand - paper and colored pencils. John thought these would be best for elementary grade children.

Overall -

You'll see chalk drawings which are beautiful. [Note for those who do not use images of Jesus in their curriculum or materials - this program includes those.]  While we were watching the Christmas story portion, I had my Bible handy and followed along. The program had a mild dramatized version of Scripture which was designed to help children get an idea of what the events were like surrounding the birth of Jesus. You'll see Mary and Joseph traveling for the census, and trying to find a room at an inn. You'll see shepherds in the fields and the star in the sky. You'll see the angel coming to announce the birth of the Savior. The chalk drawings are stunning and yet child-friendly and heartwarming.
