A Serene and Quiet Life at Home

The Bluebell Glade

Everyday I walk outside and enjoy the cool winter air. I walk part of the property in silent contemplation. It is lovely to be at home. It is like a retired life to be a housewife.

Sure, there are trials and work and activity. But this is part of a normal life. The trick is, to somehow live in my own little world so that the stresses of the day do not destroy me.

Rising early is my secret weapon against pressure. The family sleeps, while I sit and read or write. I have hours in the dark morning, before the sun rises, to enjoy some solitude.  Then I can clean and cook and bake and chat.

The phone rings all day long. There are dishes to do. There are floors to sweep and laundry to attend. I enjoy having duties which keep me occupied in the gentle arts of homemaking.

I pray here and there, throughout the day.  I take long leisurely rests. I enjoy good books and hand-sewing projects.  I think in elaborate ways - that my humble old house is an estate! This keeps me content and happy.

Sometimes, I listen to calming classical music while I work. I get all dressed up to keep house. I will even wear pearls. I don't do this everyday, just when I need to cheer up and remain focused on lovely thoughts. My kitchen becomes another world. It is a delightful world! I bake cookies in my Edwardian Apron with my hair swept up. I listen to charming music and smile. I am at peace.  I have to make those moments calm, with lots of effort, but they are worth it!

Home is the most delightful place on earth. May your day be filled with happy moments!

Blessings

I love this post. It reminds me of how I feel sometimes; just so content to have our little farmhouse and a life of peace and comfort. Not that we don't run around too much, at times, but I am always comforted by those days that I can just be in my house and do the everyday, ordinary things. Those things bring me comfort. I love being a housewife.

Mrs. White,

What a beautiful post!

Being at home is wonderful, and full-time wives/mothers should always know that it is a blessing to serve in their homes. I know that I do. :)

Blessings,

I just returned from Walmart(my daughter's 28th birthday is next week and she likes those Dr. Scholl's Marci shoes-will have to order them online-there were no more wides). A Long Island church choir was singing Christian-Christmas carols inside by the registers-for an hour and they handed out fliers for their Christmas program. My eyes teared up- and I'm not a big fan of Christmas.
