Beside Still Waters by Tricia Goyer

Book - Beside Still Waters by Tricia Goyer

Publisher - B and H Books

This is a lovely story about an Amish family, who leaves their community to live in a more remote area. The Sommer parents are trying to leave the memory of a  painful past - tragic deaths in the family, and their oldest son forsaking their faith.   I could not help constrasting the heartache of  modern Christian parents whose children do not choose the faith, with many Amish whose teens are leaving their communities.  It was enlightening!

As I read, I felt like I was visiting the Amish community and learning their ways.  You will glean glimpses of their wisdom and enjoy their simpler way of life.

The story mainly focus on their daughter, Marianna. She is developing a relationship with a neighboring Amish boy, Aaron Zook.  When her family moves away from the community, she has to leave him as well. This is painful for her.  In the new home, she meets all kinds of people who are obviously Christian, but just not Amish. This confuses her. It is fascinating to see how she learns from this and handles her new life.

The only part that disappointed me about this book was that we are not told who Marianna marries in the end. Hopefully there will be a sequel!

*Disclosure - this is part of a litfuse tour. I received this book for review purposes.*
