Planning for a Happy Homemaking Day

Still Life of Pink Roses

I was thinking about Rose Kennedy. I read her biography many years ago. She was quite a mother! But her day-to-day life intrigued me.  She would go to mass every single morning. She did this throughout her entire life. From what I understand, she would also walk into the church just to pray when a trial came to her family. This encourages me in my own religious duties.

Mrs. Kennedy had a full staff of servants. Wouldn't that be nice? I remember reading that she would plan out the dinner early each morning. She would "order the dinner." Then her staff would do the shopping or use what was at home and make sure that meal was ready and served at the dinner hour. Rose would also tell the cook how many people were expected for the meal. Do we plan our meals in the morning? Or do we often wait until 3 or 4 in the afternoon and throw something together? I love how she had this all set during the breakfast hour.

I have a lot of trials in my life, and a lot of pressure on me at home. But instead of having an anxiety attack this morning, I smiled. For some reason thinking about Mrs. Kennedy helped bring joy into my heart. I am going to be okay. I have a list of adventures to accomplish and I will do them gratefully.

No matter what happens today, I will make sure it is a happy homemaking day!

Blessings
Mrs. White

I always detect such grace in your voice, with a little sadness. I'm going to pray for you today. I hope you feel God's presence today.
Blessings,

Having my meals planned for two weeks CERTAINLY makes for a smoother evening! I've been doing that for almost 10 years. Even this morning I was looking at my menu for this evening so that I knew what I needed to get out to be prepared. Looking forward to our Parmesan Steak Salad tonight!

Have a wonderful day, Mrs. White!

Our former pastor's wife always makes preparations each morning for that evening's meal. She starts right after breakfast, planning her menu and getting the meal started. She frequently uses a slow cooker. Since she does most of it in the mornings, she doesn't have to rush in the afternoons. Oh, if only I were that organized! ;-)

She did all of this AND lost 4 of her children and 1 child was sent to a mental home. That's a lot for one person. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for that small piece of wisdom and encouragement. I appreciate it.

I am doing some late night UBP11 partying tonight and going through some of the Christian blogs.

Enjoy your weekend and be blessed!

Hi Mrs White

It is always nice to be inspired by someone else's living out their faith. I pray that you have strength to endure your trials. May God's Grace be with you.

I love it when I do plan ahead but so often I find myself "throwing something together at the last minute" and I am less than happy about it. Thanks for reminding us ~ really our homes and those we love are so important ~ a little time set aside in the morning or planning a week or two in advance can bring a lot of joy rather than dismay at mealtimes. Happy Pink Saturday to you...

Yesterday afternoon, I came home to a very messy kitchen after three days away from home with church activities and homeschool co-op. I knew no one would want to do the dishes. We were all so tired physically and emotionally.

I decided to bless my children by cleaning up the kitchen myself. They usually do dishes. It took me all afternoon. I had to take short breaks because of pain. I would sit with a heating pad, then get up and work some more. I finished at 6:30 p.m. Just in time to think about dinner!

The family had a wonderful afternoon resting, relaxing, watching a favorite program, napping, and for one writing a blog post. It made me happy knowing how much they were enjoying the afternoon. Me? Well, it was hard physically since I was so tired, but I just kept a steady pace and listened to some old Christian CDs on the player in the kitchen. I thought of you and all you do for your family.

I was happy.

And...
my husband suggested we go get some queso and chips and salsa at our favorite Mexican place instead of making dinner.

Thanks for inspiring me.
