Housekeeping Despite Lack of Motivation

LOC: Setting the Table in Home Economics Class, South Carolina, 1939.

This is one of those days when I don't want to clean. I do not care for dusting, washing floors, sweeping, polishing counters or doing dishes. This is not a good mood for me. I cannot indulge it. I guess I am in a pampered mood and want to relax and be waited on. Yet, this will not happen, since I am the housekeeper.

I will have to make a list. The list will be my guide because my thoughts are not where they should be. You know how it says in the Bible that if we commit our works to the Lord, our thoughts will be established? (Proverbs 16:3) So I will make myself do the housework. After I cross several things off the dreaded list, I will start to enjoy myself. I realize this is just a mood I am in. It is a slacker mood. It is a terrible mood. I will have to work very hard to overcome it today.

Yet, I think I can motivate myself to work harder than normal. I will even wash the floors and clean the ashes from the wood stove. I will make things look lovely, until I start to feel lovely myself!

Are you ready to do some work with me today?  Perhaps you will do a few dreaded chores and then come back here and let me know you did them. Maybe this will help inspire others to work hard at home today.

Blessings
Mrs. White

Getting Ready to Face the Family

Early in the morning, before the sun comes up, I am reading my bible, praying and getting the house in order for another day. It takes a tremendous amount of effort to keep myself in a godly, serving frame of mind. It takes a lot of sacrifice and discipline, but when I listen to inspiring music, and read inspiring literature, the joy and reward that comes from such a sacrifice is the most precious thing in the world.

Today, are you getting ready to face your family? Will they be comforted by your loving presence? Will their morning grumpiness fade away in the shadow of your cheerfulness?

This morning, I listened to one of my favorite songs, "Without Him." It was from the Gospel Hour. They were paying tribute to 90 year old Eva Mae LeFevre. She got married at 17 and lived a godly life. She was an old-time gospel singer with her family. In this tribute, her son Mylon, in his 60's, said he was proud to be her son. He told her, "You're a wonderful godly Mother."

She died in 2009, less than 2 years after this tribute was recorded. Eva was a classy, kind lady. And I want to be just like her.

After watching this program, and getting my heart in order, I am ready to face my family this morning.

Blessings
Mrs. White

Unto the Hills by Billy Graham

Book - Unto the Hills by Billy Graham

Publisher - Thomas Nelson

This softcover, devotional book was written by the much beloved minister of the gospel, Billy Graham.  It was originally published 25 years ago and has now been brought back into print. In the introduction, written in August of 2010, Billy dedicates this new edition to his late wife, Ruth (who passed away in 2007, at the age of 87). The two had an inspiring, godly life together and are much loved by many.

Each daily devotion includes a Bible Verse and a prayer. The stories and thoughts Billy shares will encourage you and brighten your day.

The pages are gently decorated with a soft moutain scene above each date. The cover is peaceful and makes you want to pick up the book and enjoy some quiet time.

I have been reading one devotion each day and have enjoyed it very much. This is one book I intend to read every single day this coming year. It is wonderful and I highly recommend it.
