I watched a movie last night about a career Mom. She was so busy, focused on both her job and her family. Each aspect of her life was constantly clashing and something was always going wrong. I was exhausted just watching!
But it got me wondering. What if housewives put that same dedication into their homes and families that career moms do? What if we had lists of chores and meal planning and schedules for managing the children. It would be kind of like having an English governess and a capable housekeeper, except it is Mother doing all these things, with every bit of focus and love she has!
I think I will do this today. It is still early and everyone is sleeping. My goal today is to make home a lovely, well managed place.
I will start by getting dressed up in something simple but classic, along with a pretty apron and a pearl necklace. Then I will start on the morning chores and begin some baking. I will write up today's menu (something I rarely do), so everyone will know what they can expect from my kitchen.
Then I will do the homeschooling, the errands, and more housework. I will also enjoy my precious family and thank God I am home!!

As much as I thank God that I have the privilege of being a stay-at-home, homeschooling, mom, I do stand in awe at what some "career moms" are capable of. While I don't agree that a woman should be employed outside of her home/family business, I think I have a lot to learn about just getting things done---even if I don't feel like it! :) SAHMs have the option of kicking back for the day and letting it all go in favor of something more "fun"; however, if we keep our perspective right, we will find the joy and fulfillment that is to be had in the blessed life of the homemaker!

Being a stay at home wife and mother is not always just about getting things done (spoken as the over-achiever that I can be). The homemaker is the person who sets the tone for the family, and a little peace goes a long way ... so give yourself permission to kick back and have fun once in awhile. We're on call 24 hours a day and are busy whether we look like it or not. Praying for our children, planning our day's duties, etc. I don't think I've met a homemaker who doesn't take her job seriously in today's climate. Those women who don't find homemaking a rewarding career just don't do it ... they go out and get a job in the workforce outside the home.
I do think the idea of viewing homemaking as career similar to an out of home career can inspire us and motivate us to appreciate our own role more, and that's always a good thing! You young wives and mothers are such a blessing to your families with your warmth and serenity and peace. There is so little of that to be found in the world today. Our children will remember us for years to come for this comfort we bring them!
This is exactly how I have been viewing my role as wife and mother lately! So timely! I do seem to have trouble with having enough hours in my day to do what I need to do...I suppose I put a bit too much 'want to do' on my list! LOL You would think after almost 28 years of wifehood and 25 years of motherhood, I would get a clue...can't do it 'all' and certainly can't do it in my own strength.

I loved the pictures. You are really in for a busy day. I tried when raising children to do just what you suggested. I loved that era of my life; but sometimes I wasn't realistic on how much time some of this takes.
