Tour of the Estate Grounds

The Back Grounds of Mrs. White's Estate.

I've often talked about walking the grounds of our property, here in rural Vermont. We have a humble, old 1800's  house on 2 acres of land.  Today, I want to take you along on a little tour of part of the grounds.  As you walk with me, you will see peeling paint on the house and porches.  If you look closely, you may see our crumbling foundation. . . You will see our old van, and Mister's Cadillac (which doesn't run).  You will see the 2 car garage that Grandpa uses.  You will see the place I call our lovely "Estate" even though we live in financial poverty.  We are poor in this world's riches, but wealthy in family and home.

Will you walk with me?

These are the white and red rose plants Mister gave me for Mother's day.
They are beside our front steps.

(If you click on one of the pictures, you will see them all at once, in a larger view.)

Here is a view of one side of the house.  See the old wooden wagon?  There is a playground off in the distance.

We are now walking closer to the hill, on the upper part of the grounds.  There is the garage and Mister's Van.

This is the upper hill.   You will see a little picket fence, and off, in the distance, is the rushing river.  We will get a better view of the river soon.

Let's take a glance back, to get a view of the property from this direction.  You may be able to see an old well, just past the picnic table. The well is tilting and has a little roof on it.  It is among the trees.

This is closer to the edge of the back property. Are you able to see the river?

This part of the property is so peaceful!  The sound of the rushing river and the delightful scent of water, and fresh air, is soothing.  Shall we walk a little closer to the river?

The little garden patch is where we grow our strawberries.    You can barely see it.  It is close to the property edge, near the river.  It is a small rectangle plot of land, surrounded by the lush green grass.  Do you see Grandpa's Garage?

The Evening hour is approaching.  Let's start to walk towards the back of the property. Take another look with me, before we go, of the view towards the front.  I love that playground. Our children spent many happy hours there, when they were little.  Now grandchildren get to enjoy it.

We walked behind the garage and are coming around.  There are footballs on the grass. Here is the back view of the old colonial house.  See the second story window, near the large portion of the house?  That is my kitchen window.  I can look out there while washing dishes, and see the children play. . .  Here is Mister's purple Cadillac.  .  .   Perhaps he will get it to work again someday. . .

These purple flowers are growing wild.  I love to visit them each day, during my walks.

It is starting to get dark. The sun is setting.  This is our last stop.  Here is the children's tent, near the back of the house.  You can also see a large tree which holds my clothesline.  The line goes up to a second story window to my laundry room.

Thank you for walking with me. . . Shall we go into the parlour for tea?  I hope someone left the light on for us. . .

A very nice walk. I walk around our property also--even though ours is a quarter acre suburban lot. I delight in walking around it everyday, keeping it nice and enjoying the birds, shrubs, trees, and the sunrise and sunset views. Bless you.

The kitchen window should always view the children's play area..... ;) Love that your place has that feature! I think you have a lovely home, and I can see why you enjoy being there so much. Thank you for allowing me to walk with you today.

Thank you for the tour of your grounds! You live on beautiful, peaceful property! There is much richness in that! I wish I could come into your parlour for tea! But, I have signed the guest book! :) I love that idea -- may I borrow that thought for my visits on My Front Porch?

May the Lord bless your home with much love, peace and joy! May your little estate be a beacon of light to your neighbors close and far!

It is every bit as lovely as you describe it. Your home and land appear so peaceful. Of course, our precious Savior makes all of the difference and your obedience to Him bring such blessing to your family and others that you touch through your blog. Thank you for the tour.

How interesting. I was just thinking of sending you a letter to request a look at your venerable house and landscape. Reading about your motherhood and home life got me curious. And I was more curious after you showed us the view of your front garden and picnic table a few posts ago. And then today I find your Vermont house.
I'm certain you find the stream behind your house a relaxing and peaceful sound. Thanks for the stroll but most of all for sharing the value you hold in Christian home life.

Oh how peaceful and pretty your estate is. You and your husband and family have created a beautiful haven for your family. It must take a lot of work to keep it up but somehow you have managed. Not just managed but add such extras to it to make it all the prettier. Thank you for showing us your estate! Sarah

Beautiful! Makes me wish we had a larger property, out in the country. I live in a very different place, a beach town, and I love it, but sometimes I really wish we lived further out.

Your home is lovely. I was wondering, do you fish in that river? My son would love to play in that :)

I sure would enjoy a home and land like that as well!

This is my first visit to your blog, and I am so thrilled to have been linked to it! It's not very often that I come across what I call a "kindred spirit" out there in computer land, and look forward to visiting on a regular basis. I too think your home is lovely, and I might add well "loved" as well. I wish I was somewhere in New England, as I always felt my heart was there. But I need to appreciate my own humble home, and view it as you do yours.....on a daily walk, thru very discerning eyes. Maybe then I'll see past its imperfections and appreciate its own loveliness and well loved spaces. We are in this home for 25 years now, so it too has seen many memories and 3 generations.

Your Home and grounds are so lovely! Thank you for sharing these beautiful pictures. Your writing refreshens my Homemaking journey. I sometimes feel like I was born in the wrong time as my ambition has always been to be a Homemaker. The beautiful way you express the heart of being a Homemaker brings me strength to go on, day to day.

What a beautiful, lovely home with it's peaceful surroundings. How I would love to sit in your parlor and have tea and just chat with you, for hours on end. I too, as one of the ladies said in an earlier comment, I do believe I was born in the wrong time period. I am a stay at home homeschooling mom since 1999. Three boys graduated and one young lady on her way. We love the 1800's Era...the clothes, the food, the simplicity...your blog just takes me there, just viewing all of your beautiful pictures/works of art. Thank you for the evening stroll! I should love to visit and stroll by the fresh, moving waters.
