Book - A Memory Between Us - by Sarah Sundin

Publisher - Revell

Paperback, 439 pages.

Description from the Publisher:

"Major Jack Novak has never failed to meet a challenge--until he meets army nurse Lieutenant Ruth Doherty. When Jack lands in the army hospital after a plane crash, he makes winning Ruth's heart a top-priority mission. But he has his work cut out for him. Not only is Ruth focused on her work in order to support her orphaned siblings back home, she also is determined not to give her heart to any man.
As the danger and tension of World War II rise to a fever pitch, Jack and Ruth will need each other more than ever. Can Jack break down her defenses? Or are they destined to go their separate ways?
From the English countryside to the perilous skies over France, A Memory Between Us takes you on a journey through love, forgiveness, and sacrifice."

My Thoughts -

This is a well written story and gives you a good insight into what life was like for the nurses during World War II.  You will read about military life and get a real feel for the suffering of soldiers and life, in general, during that time period. The story-line itself, about a nurse who has her defenses up and refuses to date anyone (for various reasons), was difficult for me to grasp.  The plot and events that unfolded, were not something I normally read. I love stories from this era, but was a little disappointed because I thought it would be more wholesome and entertaining.

Linked here from "A Hearts Cry" blog - saw you were from Vermont. I grew up there, though now live many states away.

I don't read many novels. This one looks interesting b/c I do like the WW2 era also. If you like autobiographies, Eva's War is the autobiog of a young German woman fleeing the Russians during WW2. It is an unbelievable account of the courage and determination of a young wife and mom (about age 22) against unbelievable odds. I've had my daughters read it just to encourage them with the powerful things God can enable them to do if ever confronted with similar circumstances. Read like a novel, but it is a true story! And even though the Germans were our enemies, the struggle of the women and children for survival still touches the heart strings (James 1:27).
