30 - Minute Marathon Cleaning

I don't know anyone who enjoys cleaning up a big mess. Personally, I like to take my time with housework, to take pride and delight in the process of making a home. However, when the kitchen is a wreck - after a big meal, I need to get things in order quickly. This calls for some marathon cleaning.

This is what I do:

1. Put on my ankle weights and set the timer for 30 minutes. (The weights help me work quickly, like I am doing a workout.)

2. Clean the sink, then fill it with hot water and start soaking dishes. (We don't have a dishwasher.)

3. Clean the counters.

4. Clean the stove.

5. Start washing dishes, drying them and putting them away.

6. I look at the clock and see I have 10 minutes left, this motivates me to work quickly without taking a break.

7. Soak the pans.

8. Sweep the Floor.

9. Wipe down the appliances.

10. Wash the pans.

All finished.

When I do this kind of marathon cleaning, I have much more free time for leisure.

Blessings

  1. Your plan sounds like a good one. I have a dishwasher now, but there have been times when I didn't. My routine was similar to yours. The difference was, when I had a "load" of dishes in the drainer to drip, I would stop and let them air dry a bit while I cleaned the stove, counters, microwave, etc. The dishes wouldn't be quite so wet, and I would dry them and put them away, then wash the sinkful that was soaking, etc. I am very fast at handwashing dishes! But I ♥ my dishwasher and am thankful for it.

  2. I don't have a dish washer either and that is basically how I do my kitchen. Let the dishes soak while I'm doing the stove then after all the little dishes are done I soak the big things. Mopping the floor comes last because somehow I always manage to get the floor wet.

  3. I have this thing about not wanting to leave my house unless my dishes are done. I also can't stand to leave any dishes to do overnight. I like to wake up with a clean kitchen. Enjoy the read!
