Encouraging Literature for Homemakers

Complete set of six books by Mrs. Elizabeth Prentiss (1800's)*

One of the things I love to do is read good, wholesome literature which inspires me.  As a Housewife, I am mostly encouraged by old stories of home life for mothers and wives.  Elizabeth Prentiss is one of my favorite authors. Her book, "Aunt Jane's Hero" shows the beauty of a humble, simple Christian marriage. It is her best book!

Another author I like is someone I only recently discovered, even though she wrote her books in the early 1900's.  These are Christian fiction and are written by Grace Livingston Hill.

It is easier to find affordable, inspiring books when they are discounted, or when you can get them used for a very low price.

The most important theme in the books I like is that they lead me to heavenly ideals and inspire a noble virtue in daily living.  They lead one to the Lord and to His precious ways!

As Mother's Day is soon approaching, I hope you are able to find some special literature to cheer you on in your mothering!

For those who have been wondering how I am doing, I am feeling much better. Nice weather has come to us here in rural Vermont.  Mister and I sat on the front porch early one evening and enjoyed a rest while looking over the landscape.  It is a beautiful time of year!

Blessings
Mrs. White

I also loved "Aunt Jane's Hero"! Have you ever read Isabella Alden books? I believe she was a niece or aunt to Grace Livingston Hill. Either way, I adore her books and think you might like them too! Thank you for the information on the reduced prices on your lovely books also :)

Oh Mrs. White! I am so sorry I never mentioned Grace Livingston Hill to you before. I can see how you'd love her novels. They inspire hard work, a good attitude in homemaking, virtue, and a love of God.

I just finished reading Phoebe Deane. It was rather sad through most of it, but it was still a good book.

Did you know many of her books are free on Kindle? I downloaded several recently. I have also been able to find them in our library.

By the way, my husband got a job! Praise God! He got his first paycheck a couple days ago after four months with no income! We were blessed to receive gifts of money and products from believers and others that helped us make it through.

Be blessed and well in Jesus' Name!

Mrs. Laura Lane

Oh, I have loved Grace Livingstone Hill since I was a girl in school. Her books are just wonderful and have been such a blessing to me throughout life. So thankful you discovered her. May I suggest another author who is wonderful? You may have already heard of her, but her name is Sallie Lee Bell. She is similar to Grace Livingstone Hill. She wrote one that I read that was something about a girl who was beautiful who ended up getting a horrible scar on her face...I think it was called "The Scar", if I remember right. It left such an impact upon me as a young girl. I hope you can find some of her books! We are hosting a Spring giveaway at Homespun Devotions, if you care to come by and enter! God bless you!

I love Mrs. Prentiss! Another of my favourites is L. M. Soulsby. Much of her work is free online because it's public domain. Actually, you can find hers as well as Mrs. Prentiss' on Gutenberg.
