30th Wedding Anniversary

Library of Congress:  Earle Landis family, 1942, anniversary party in Pennsylvania

In just a few days, Papa and I will have our 30th wedding anniversary. I have been trying to think of ways to make it a special day.  We are not the type of people who go out for a special dinner, or take a vacation, or spend money on expensive gifts.  Even though we would certainly enjoy those things, we have never had the funds.  The last time we went out to dinner together was shortly after we were married, 30 years ago.  We have been focused on the quiet of home and raising a family. There has always been work to do.  There will always be work on our anniversaries as well.  It is the work of loving our home, our children, and our grandchildren.  We just have to find a way to make special days a bit distinctive and above the ordinary.

I can just imagine what Ma Ingalls would have done during a time when they lived in seclusion out on the prairie.  Perhaps she would have dressed up a bit with a pretty ribbon in her hair.  She would have saved good sugar, over time, to be able to make an anniversary cake.  After the family did the farm work and all the regular chores which were necessary for survival, perhaps Pa would have surprised Ma with some precious homemade gift to delight her. It was just little thoughtful things that made special days distinctive.

This year I will make a white cake, and use my white tablecloth.  I have a special photo album (an anniversary book) showing our years together.  I will find a few pictures from this past year and add them to the book.  Papa and I recently had our picture taken, just a few days ago, during an outside picnic for one of the grandchildren.  I will add this picture to my wedding anniversary book.  (I would share it here, but must protect Papa's privacy.  - gentle smiles)

Some of the children and grandchildren will be here to visit.  Some of us will attend church services, since the anniversary falls on a Sunday this year.  We will make the house look extra pretty and a bit festive.  Then, in the quiet of the afternoon, we will thank the Lord for giving us these many years together and ask for many more.

Blessings
Mrs. White

ESPERO QUE NO SE OFENDA POR MIS PREGUNTAS. BENDICIONES.

White cake & white frosting, the traditional wedding cake has always been my very favorite...simple pleasures. :~) Hubby and I celebrated our 30th last year, a nice homemade dinner and dessert was on our menu.
Pray you have a lovely day celebrating!

Congratulations to you, fellow June bride! Our 23rd anniversary was yesterday. My husband and I don't go out to dinner for our anniversary and we agreed at the very beginning to not give each other presents. Not wanting to spend money or not having money to spend ;-) have always been the reasons, but I also think it's better to show love day by day, by how we treat each other, than to do some fancy thing once a year. That seems like showing off or what I think of as a "Facebook" celebration---something to brag about on social media, and I'm not into that. I'd much rather spend time together at home, maybe have some ice cream or another treat, look at pictures and talk about our wedding day. Also, our son was born the day after our 6th anniversary---that was the best present ever!!---so since then we've focused more on his birthday than our anniversary. I hope you have a wonderful time celebrating with your family, and many more years together!

Happy Anniversary, Mrs. White. I hope it is a joyful day, and adds to the many precious memories you already have together.

A thought: perhaps have the children write, or tell at the gathering, a favorite memory of theirs about your family. If written, you could then add them to your album for future enjoyment.

Happy Anniversary, Mrs. White! My husband and I just celebrated 31 happy years. We, too, rarely go out or do anything away from home on our anniversary. A happy marriage is just being together, having special flowers on the table for a special meal at home with the kiddos, etc.

Many more happy anniversaries to you and Mr. White.

Dear Mrs White,

Congratulations to you both, what a lovely way to spend your anniversary.

We too in April celebrated out 30th anniversary, we tend not to do anything special, but I think from now on I will make something special, Alabama chocolate fudge cake is his favourite. Thank you for the inspiration.

blessings to you both

Happy Anniversary!!!

I’ve been reading your blog for years and I always loved the simplicity that you inspire. When I first found you we were having money problems and your attitude helped me so much through that time.

I read this post early in the morning along with the other’s linked on the bottom. It’s been on my mind all day. I just want to say this. I understand that you guys are on a limited income, but you serve an unlimited God. You are a daughter of the King of Kings. Yes it’s good to be content and it’s even biblical. God loves a grateful heart. But He also loves to give to His children. I had to let go of having a “cheap” spirit. I started speaking and declaring the scriptures that talk about His children being prosperous (we were going to food pantries at the time). Although we aren’t well to do now, we are no longer in the place of not enough. Now we’re in a place where our needs are being met and a little extra. I don’t have to track every penny when I go grocery shopping and it’s wonderful. Now I can’t go crazy, but I’m no longer diluting dish soap if you catch my drift.

I just wanted to share that with you. Praying and speaking over your finances (and also praying for creative ideas that you’d never think of yourself!!) works wonders. Be content, peaceful and joyful...but don’t settle and accept limitations. We serve the creator of the universe!, the King of Kings, a huge powerful LIMITLESS God and He wants His children to prosper...but He can’t do it if they believe that what they have is all they’ll ever have. (Ask, pray, believe and receive). (((HUGS)))
