Finding Time and Strength to Write

A desk in Mrs. White's Home

I have not written much here on the blog for quite some time.  Often it is very difficult to find a quiet space, or some time, to think.  This year we have guests staying with us for the spring and summer months.  I have given them our back parlour where I used to write.

Yesterday I realized there is an empty wall in one of the rooms. I measured my old desk and found it would fit perfectly.  This room is on the first floor, where my parent's bedroom used to be.  (They lived with us for 9 years.)  They have since gone home to Heaven.  Lately, I have been using the room to watch Charles Stanley sermons on DVD. These are ones offered for free from time-to-time through the ministry. I like to watch them in that room in the quiet of the morning before everyone wakes up.  My father was the one who had we children watch Dr. Stanley's sermons on television in the 1980's.  So I find it comforting to hear his sermons.

Now that my desk is in that room, I can bring in my laptop and start writing early in the day, just after the sun rises.  It is also a good time for prayer, hear a sermon, and to get ready for a busy day with the family.

On the desk, in the picture above, there is a lace table runner (or bureau scarf).  It was a beautiful gift from a dear reader.  You will also see a picture that says, "Prayer."  It also says, in smaller print, "When life gets too hard to stand. . Kneel."  This was given to me by another dear reader. These are very precious items that are so helpful. This is how I get my strength.

I have gotten behind on writing reviews because I really dread doing them.  I am going to try to seriously limit them to rare occasions.  I just caught up on them today, and will start getting back to a regular routine of regular writing.  Thank you for your patience with me.  Thank you for reading.  I am very grateful.

We have had so many trials in the last few years.  A little over three years ago, my husband became disabled.  This has been a drastic change in our lives.  It has taken a  long time to understand what was happening and to adjust.  We have settled into a new way of life.  It is a much quieter way with a very limited income.  The Lord provides and we are content and blessed.   All is well.

Blessings,
Mrs.White

Greetings Sharon,
It is so nice to see a post from you. I have taken a bit of a break from social media, too. We have had a rough few years of trials ourselves. I am sorry to hear of your husbands disability. God is faithful. I just started writing a bit, updating my story , When Queens Ride By. I continued the popular story of the struggling housewife. I do love writing some encouraging entries. Please visit. Your family will be in my prayers and I did think of you the other day as I was in your home state.
Blessings,
Suzanne xx

I am delighted that you will begin writing more often. I so look forward to reading your post. I guess you would consider me to be a "stalker" of your blog. Can't wait for the next one. :-)

So happy to see a post this morning...your blog is so very encouraging! I've been reading now for over a year and I've read through all your archives. This is such a comforting place, especially as I usually feel like I just don't fit in very well because I'm a homemaker, AND I actually enjoy it. I know how busy life can get, but I'm glad to see you back and I truly hope circumstances allow you plenty of time to keep it up :)

I'm so glad to see that you are writing again Mrs.White. Thank you for making the time to do so, with all your other many responsibilities. I have been reading your blog for a few years now, and always find it encouraging, especially when the economy has been uncertain and our teenagers have been challenging. I am blessed by your sharing. Thank you!

Dear Mrs. White,
I've not written much either lately, at Harvest Lane Cottage. The round of treatments which I've been taking for the last 13 months has left me worn out. Just two more IV treatments in July! I'll have surgery again this fall, then I hope we can settle down into a quiet routine of doctor visits, tests, etc. I know that I must take a pill for at least 5 years. Then, I hope to be declared cancer free. Remission is a good thing for now!

I'm glad you've found a place of comfort and a place for your desk. Balance work and rest well my dear.

Sincerely,
Laura Lane

Dear Mrs White - Charles Stanley sermons are the only ones i listen to. They are Bible based. He does not yell and like you i feel comforted and encouraged when i take teaching from him.
Table runner- currently i making a co9uple of patchwork table runners however mostly i use hand crocheted doillies of various sizes on my tables.
We have much in common- my husband was diagnosed with Huntingtons Disease jsutover a year ago but i knew he had it at least 13 years ago when things began to change. His mother is in late stages and his grandfather died from it. There is no cure and a 50% chance of our daughter/grandchildren getting it. It does not skip a generation but out of a family of say 5 three will not get the gene and 2 will. He is currently still working but i am knuckling down to save hard as i doubt he will be able to in another 2 years. My hope and trust and faith is in the Lord to help us both cope with what is to come. I send you a hug from one wife of a disabled husband to another. Thank you for sharing. Often we feel so alone in the journeys the Lord takes us on. God bless you

PS - one thing i did was shut down my Facebook page not that i had many people on there but i found it draining at times as some were our deceased sons friends and i love them to bits but their postings could be quite "random" and they do not know how to filter themselves and i say this in love.

I love it when a flash of inspiration and some moving around of things creates a new space in my home. Just this week, a rocking chair in my bedroom which has basically been ignored except for the times it’s used as a clothes rack ;-) has come alive. I nested three small mismatched but coordinating side tables beside it and placed my bibles and devotional and notebooks and other books I’m reading on top. Suddenly I have a lovely new space to read (and write a little bit) and have a cup of tea or coffee. I’m enjoying it immensely and look forward to spending some time each day in my rocking chair.

I am glad to hear that you have found a place and time to write. My husband became disabled from a heart attack he had on 12/27/16. He was without oxygen to his brain for 7 minutes and has a brain injury. We now live on half our income on disability but God has been so good to us and we lack for nothing. Like you we have settled into being content and comfortable wt home. I really like having him here every day and have adapted to his special needs and taking care of him. We have found joy in doing things like going to a nearby lake for picnics and free things that we had not done in years.

I always look forward to reading your posts. My husband and I have had a number of trials also in the last 9 months. He was diagnosed with PPMS January 5 of this year and we are in the process of moving from a home with a lot of stairs to a home on one floor. I've been discouraged at times with the changes our lives are taking but was encouraged to read in your post that it is an adjustment and that it takes time. It is so good to know at these times that God is in control, that nothing ever catches Him off guard and that He will take it all and work it out for our good!

Dear Mrs White
It was lovely to see that you had posted today, I was starting to worry that all was not well. I'm glad that you have found a little nook to breath in, I sneak away to a rocking chair corner and just recover enough to keep going. I hope Mr White is doing as well as he can do, and that you will have some fun with your guests. Even though life is like a roller coaster of living I know that a hug from a grandchild can bring such joy to the heart. Praying for you all
Blessings to you all
