There have been some changes to the blog that are difficult for me. There has been a notification that one of the features, here at blogger, will no longer work. This is the email subscription service that has been working since I started the blog in 2009. I find the behind - the - scenes work of blogging to be a little frustrating and time - consuming. But I realize it is necessary.
I have been able to set up a new email service, but I would need you to sign up for this. If you have already subscribed (in the past), I am asking you to re-subscribe through this new service. (The old service will stop working in July.) I will share the link with you in just a moment.
Please subscribe to the New Email service:
In order to receive a notification from me, that a new blog post has been published, here at The Legacy of Home, please subscribe. I will also do my best to send some kind of encouragement in each of the email notices.
Here is the link:

We will be traveling to my brothers house for the 4th of July. They live about 4 1/2 hours North of us. Joe and I have gone to a plant based way of eating for health purposes so the eating will be a challenge. They are fixing sloppy joes so I will make lentil sloppy joes for us and take it with us. Have a blessed holiday.
For the Fourth weekend I decorate with flags. I’m from Ohio and bought 24 vintage small Ohio flags last year at a garage sale! We usually grill out and have a campfire. I also make cookies and use my antique red, white and blue vintage metal basket with wood handles. It too is vintage and I bought at an auction 30 years ago. I appreciate this Holiday even more than ever. Our founding fathers and patriots I believe were guided by God.
Kathy
As for decoration for the Glorious 4th, we won't be making any changes as we always fly a flag by the door and another next to the water. Love Old Glory!
The Fourth comes on a Sunday this year, so there will be services first, followed by the parade in the afternoon, maybe taking a picnic lunch along. Hopefully, they will be having fireworks this year.
To top it off, I will add another year to my age. Best day of the year for a birthday. Family is scattered around the nation, so will only see a few, but will most likely receive several calls from those afar.
Unfortunately, my very hard-working husband has to work all day on Independence Day. We will be taking a vacation soon afterward though. My favorite memories of Independence Day are when we would get together with close family and eat hot dogs and watermelon (and fears that watermelon seeds would grow in my stomach lol). Sometimes we would spend time at the lake. Then we always ended the day with attending a community wide fireworks show.
I have subscribed to the email service!
I subscribed. I'm not sure what we will be doing for the 4th. The town fireworks have been canceled due to stage 2 fire restrictions. We are having severe drought situation and several wildfires burning.
When I was little my parents would always buy us fireworks at the local fireworks stands.
I forgot to mention I'm still trying to figure out MailChimp and putting the subscription button on my blog.
I truly enjoy your blog, have read or bought many of your books, so no need to put me on the giveaway ;). I don’t normally comment but wanted to thank you for the time and effort you spend on the blogs and books, you have a lovely writing style.
My family will celebrate Independence Day and my mother’s birthday with a cookout and banana split cake, and we will spend time with my in-laws during a churchwide pool party. My husband and I also plan to spend time talking to our children about the true meaning of Independence Day.
I subscribed to the email service as well.
Hello Mrs. White. May you have a blessed 4th of July. I believe we will hang patriotic banners about our home, watch the fireworks display that our little town does, and eat festive foods. Last year due to the pandemic, the fireworks display was cancelled. This year it will be festive. As a child, we made homemade ice cream, watched the town fireworks along with a few of our own. Hot dogs and hamburgers are made to enjoy in the Summer heat. I'd be honored to receive your books!!!
Blessings and may you have a wonderful 4th.

I collect quotes. Here is a really good one I discovered recently:
If there is righteousness in the heart, there will be beauty in the character.
If there is beauty in the character, there will be harmony in the home.
If there is harmony in the home, there will be order in the nation.
If there is order in the nation, there will be peace in the world.
- a Scottish proverb
Pray for our nation!
Fourth of July is going to be extra happy at my house this year. Our son is coming in from New Mexico for a two week stay. We have not been able to see him since Covid started!!! We are very excited. So I will be cooking up a storm and cleaning. His room is partially ready. Please pray for a safe flight for him.
Take care and stay well.
Sincerely,
Barb in PA
I love July 4th Independence Day-- we all get together for a good time!!!
I will be supporting my Beloved as he competes in a shooting competition at a local gun range, then enjoying supper and a fireworks show afterwards at the range.
We have a great family time with our family! We love the fireworks!
We will have just moved into our new land and be setting up the beginnings of a new homestead.
I have been a long time subscriber of yours. I am now subscribed to your new one. Have a nice day.
Mary Ann
We are having a cookout at Home, with Son and his Family. It is my Son's Birthday so it will be an extra celebration. We will use all foods out of our pantry, our biggest purchase will be a watermelon.
We use to go to the fireworks in the city but with covid and crime, it doesn't make sense to go in any longer.
We are wishing all a Happy Independence Day and may all remember what we are truly celebrating, our freedom.
I subscribed to emails.
I may have a cook out for the Fourth Of July holiday. Enjoy your day and family!
Mary Ann
We usually enjoy the day off together, attend fireworks and enjoy a cake made to reflect our flag!
This year I will be getting ready for my sons' and grandsons' visit! I have not seen them for almost 2 years because of covid and because they live far away. But they are coming to visit me for several days starting on July 8. In the past growing up, we always went to a parade somewhere and had a backyard cookout.
July 4 will probably be spent with a game of croquet in the front yard with the grandchildren and friends. The evening will be spent with our church, passing out Gospel tracts to the crowds gathered for the local fireworks display.
By the way, I think you'll be quite pleased with your change to MailChimp. I've been using it for several email lists for years, and it has been great. Look at it not as a burden, but as an improvement.
I have linked Blog to my Facebook Group Page, I know the ladies in my group will love your blog.

It’s my husband’s and my anniversary. I think we might cook something yummy on the smoker. And our church is doing a lunch with games and activities. Then we might meet up with friends to watch fireworks.
I subscribed! :)
We are hosting 4th of July this year for my and my husband’s family. My father in law is a grill master so he’s helping us by grilling the steaks, and everyone else will bring a dish. I found some large yard letters at Walmart that spell “Let Freedom Ring”, which we will be displaying in celebration of the freedoms we hold dear here in America. To me, though, it’s also a reminder to keep praying that the Lord would be merciful to us and that we can continue to keep these freedoms.
Fourth of July is our favorite holiday! We have tons of red, white and blue themed foods, clothing, and decorations! The kids will do a small parade together in our yard. We light off a ton of fireworks. Our neighborhood looks like WW 3 as the whole neighborhood celebrates! We also send up a lantern in honor of our baby we miscarried a few years ago. We have lots of fun and smiles! It’s a great day!
For Independence Day this year, we will be preparing to travel to another state to see our first grandchild! Our granddaughter was born just a few days ago and a little bit early, but is doing well. The whole family will be celebrating our nation's independence by getting to know Liberty Anne! (How's that for a patriotic name?!)
Hello Mrs. White. I have signed up for future email notifications, thank you kindly. With this last year, we have all been affected in one way or another. What I would like to share is to take the time to appreciate the special people in your life. I'm not a big holiday person. Every day in my opinion is important. Let's appreciate the blessings we have in our life. Even when we are down, there is always something to be thankful for.
We will be going to church and then having a pitch in dinner ♥️
Mrs. White,
I pray you have a blessed 4th! My family will be patiently awaiting the day we can move into our new home this July. No bells and whistles this 4th as we stay with family until the home God blessed us with is ready. It has been a faith walk, but we cannot wait to have a home of our own. Thank you always for this lovely blog that carries on the truth of the joys of homemaking.<3
I will be making homemade ice cream to share with my husband, children, daughter-in-law,grandchildren and a few friends.
I’m not sure how we will be celebrating, as normally we do nothing (the neighbors give intense fireworks displays), but now we are blessed with additional family members in the area that enjoy celebrating.
(I would prefer to win An Old Fashioned Budget book, as I’m already blessed to have Homemaking for Happiness.)
Thank you for providing a way for us to stay in touch! We will be excited to celebrate July 4th this year as we will have our daughter home after being away for a year to study at a biblical school in the Montana wilderness! We will feast together with grilled meats and old traditional sides, topped off with blueberry pie! We will play games together outdoors and listen to early American instrumental music, laughing and enjoying each other’s company! And in the evening, instead of fireworks (outside our meager budget) we will watch the fireflies light up the grounds for us!! It will be a very lovely time of celebration! Many blessings to your family!
I’m also signed up for your new email service.
I subscribed. Thanks for letting us know. Kathy
We are having a simple family gathering with hot dogs, baked beans, sparklers, fun, and love.
Sorry you had to find another way to support your email subscribers. I signed up!
I will be going to church & spending time with family.
I'm following my years-in-the-making dream of trying out flower farming this year, and (fingers crossed), I'm hoping to be able to have red, white, and blue bouquets to offer those who have purchased a CSA bouquet subscription and for anyone else who wants to buy one! The garden has been such a source of joy and comfort to me in a turbulent time in our world, and I'm excited to share some of that joy with others via some patriotic bouquets :)
We will be celebrating the 4th with a family party. We have a pool so it will be a swim party. Our immediate family is made up of my husband and me and our five children, 1 son-in-law and 1 grandchild. All holidays are greatly anticipated as we always cook a large meal with family favorites such as potato salad, baked beans and delicious desserts. During the 4th, strawberry desserts are featured and home-made ice cream
We will travel to spend the weekend with family , make a patriotic cake, and shoot fireworks .
I will be at home loving and serving my beloved lord and savior 🙏 Jesus christ and then serving my beloved husband Immanuel .who's a veteran marine captain .I love being the child of God. A gold wife and the Keeper of the Home .Many blessings to u and your family
We will be celebrating our son's high school graduation... It will be a surprise party. Every year our son Sam plans our 4th of July backyard party. He purchases fireworks and dresses up like Uncle Sam. Little does he know this year we will be celebrating all his hard work and end of homeschooling. So proud of him. Never thought he would sit still long enough to learn anything:)
I subscribe ❤️
I love your blog and your books! Since the 4th of July is on a Sunday, we will be seeing my mother-in-law as usual (I've begun a sermon notebook as you suggested), and then we will go to my mom's that evening for burgers and to watch the fireworks as we do every year, since she lives on a hill overlooking a valley. Last year was SPECTACULAR. I've never seen more fireworks - it was nonstop in every direction for over six hours! It must have been because our horrible governor said the 4th was canceled and people were saying, Nope! Going to celebrate despite the shutdown. I have a feeling this year will be big, too! xo Janine
We are moving so I don’t know how we will celebrate the 4th this year. Just know that my husband and I will be together.
We are moving so I don’t know how we will celebrate the 4th this year. Just know that my husband and I will be together.
This year is a little different. We are having a revival service at our church on the 4th, so we will be in a service that evening. After service, we will shoot off our fireworks. It won't be dark until about 8 pm so that is when we will do them. As for the day, its a full grill of goodies and homemade sides and maybe cookies or a cake for dessert.
Not sure what we are doing yet! Im sure it will involve our kids and grandkids and lots of food!
Fourth of July - probably i will be staying home, making macaroni salad - listening to the Yankee game - nice and simple....
(PS - when I win, my email address is andreajesus10@aol.com :-) )
I subscribed using the new email notification. We will be spending the day at home with family. Will grill hamburgers and hot dogs, along with some potato salad, cole slaw, chips and dip and some banana pudding. I hope you and your family have a wonderful 4th.

We'll be having family in for the 4th this year. Not only will be celebrating America's birthday but we'll be enjoying our new granddaughter who'll be visiting for the summer.
I subscribed to the new email list. Thank you!
I just resubscribed to your blog. I will be spending the 4th with my family in Louisiana. We will barbeque hamburgers and hot dogs, and make homemade ice cream. Have a happy holiday with your family.
One of my favorite Independence Day memories was when I was pregnant with my twins. I lived on a 3rd floor apartment on the river in Jacksonville, Fl, and the stadium on the other side of the river had a big fireworks display. I was so big and uncomfortable, almost to my due date, and with my husband being at school in VA (in the Navy). But I watched alone from my balcony, with all the fireworks reflecting on the river, and I felt so proud and happy, and almost like the show was just for me. I still smile thinking about it, 30 years later!
I am so grateful that this very important 4th of July lands on a Sunday... I plan to be in much dedicated prayer for our blessed nation. I will plead with the Lord on behalf of our rich & beautiful country that is so tattered and torn and struggling so much right now. Our God is merciful and I will beg Him for strength & courage to endure and to celebrate our HIStory & heritage that Honors Him & tells the world of His goodness :)
Thank You Mrs. White for all of your gifts ... God Bless You :)
You can reach me at my new email: kimberlykreation@yahoo.com
I think this is my first time commenting, and I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoy your blog and look forward to your posts. I also subscribed with the link. For the 4th, my son has recently become a volunteer fireman, so we are looking forward to go to the town parade and seeing him be a part of it. Afterwards, the town is holding a celebration with food and music. I will be decorating with some patriotic faux flower arrangements and flags. I also wanted to say that I already purchased your budgeting book, so if I am lucky enough to win, I would love to get the Homemaking book and have you give the budget to another reader. Thanks for giveaway.
I think this is my first time ever commenting, and I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoy you blog and look forward to your posts. I did subscribe as directed. I love to decorate for all the holidays and will be using some faux flowers and flags. Also, if I am fortunate enough to win, I would love to split the prize as I already purchased your budgeting book. Thanks for the giveaway.
Thank you Mrs. White for the set-up and post regarding the ability to follow your blog. I had not figured out how to do that yet. I will look into Mail Chimp.
Since the 4th is on a Sunday, we will be going to church and then enjoying family over. I love the ladies comments about what they are doing. They give me wonderful ideas. I love to be creative for family gatherings.
I have, in years past, planned old fashioned games with croquet and a ring toss with balloons anchored on the ground.
Now we live in southern Colorado and the winds this time of year are...random and high , and one year it took our canopy with it a blew it across the yard. So our outdoor adventures are adjusted to most being indoors.
Ever year growing up, my parents and family had cookouts and just spent family time together. Some years there were fireworks and some years not, but family time to relax and just talk and enjoy a good meal was always happening. This year, I am missing both of my parents who has passed on and missing my sister who no longer speaks to me. As I type this, I am awaiting surgery on my legs due to 3 blood clots and bad varicose veins after 30 years of nursing shifts and a lot of standing and walking. I hope to be home by july3 rd and plan a cookout and reminiscing about old times growing up with my family and just enjoying us being able to gather again this year. I look so forward to decorating with my July quilts and red white and blue stars and plenty of July 4th decorated cakes and goodies!
Always enjoy your gentle words. I ascribe to be a gentle lady as well. For July 4th we gather with family and I make a black raspberry pie as the berries first come in the week before. We celebrate a freedom service at our church and this year will be especially great as July 4th falls on Sunday!
Than you for the link to keep my inbox receiving your posts! I hope you have a wonderful and patriotic Fourth, too! "Freedom cannot be bestowed; it must be achieved." I really need this Holiday to bring the Patriotism back in my blood. It has become difficult with the leaders at hand. But I know, this too shall pass, and One Nation under God, still prevails!
Independence Day also happens to be my birthday so we will undoubtedly have a little family celebration as well as services at church and a dinner on the grounds.
I use Blogger as well. How do you go about finding and installing a new subscription service. Does Blogger offer another one or do i need to find one myself? I've never done this before. Any info would greatly help seeings though I have subscribers too.
We hope you have a very blessed Fourth of July holiday! We are from the great state of Texas and enjoy getting together as a family, watching our local fireworks show and eating hamburgers!
Hey Sharon, I'm sorry to hear about the changes coming to blogger. Somehow, I missed that announcement. Guess I'd better go take a look and see what I need to do. I signed up through your new email service.
We usually grill out for the 4th. My husband and I love to grill corn on the cob with butter and spices. We enjoyed this dish the 2nd summer we were married at an outdoor concert in the city park. My favorite childhood treat for Independence Day is cantaloupe with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. One eats the ice cream out of the melon "bowl" that is created when the cantaloupe is sliced in half.
Enjoy your 4th of July,
Leslie
Hi!
My son and his wife are visiting us on the 4th of July! They just got married in September and I still miss him but I'm happy he lives in town..for now:( My husband and I have been very happily married for 32 years. Empty nesting is not all bad, for sure, and I have a lovely and sweet daughter-in-love! My son's leaving home brought about all kinds of changes to our home since we gained an extra room. I have done lots of decluttering, re-arranging, and cleaning and I am very happy with it all.

My husband and I have no plans for this year. However in the past when our sons were still home, we would join my extended family at brother's country home for cookout food and fireworks. Also included, for no extra charge, were mosquito bites gallore! These days we just listen to a variety of fireworks going off around us in our neighborhood.

I’m so happy to have subscribed to the email service! I was wondering why I was not getting your posts! Thank you so much!
I am so happy that my daughter is home from school for this 4th of July!!! I plan to make a flag cake with blueberries, strawberries and whipped cream. We live in a rural place, so we will drive out and everyone parks along the farm fields and sits on their tailgates for fireworks. So much fun! Hope you have a delightful holiday as well:).
Our oldest child was born on the 4th of July, so it's always been extra special to our family. When it's possible, we get together for a cookout and to celebrate her BD; she will be 47 this year and her daughter just got married earlier this week! I love to decorate with flags, etc. inside and out for Memorial Day and carrying over through the 4th of July. It's my favorite holiday after Christmas! God bless . . .
My husband will be grilling out here at home. I will cook some sides and a cool dessert. Ww plan to enjoy a relaxing day with our grown children.
Thank you for all your encouraging words I have many of your books! We are planning a quiet day at home on Independence Day and a simple cookout with my 80 year old mom!
We won't be doing anything elaborate just a cookout with my husband and two daughters.
My grandson of 8 wants us to come over his house to shoot fireworks and celebrate it with him...how can we say no to that. Have a wonderful fourth of July!! simplyfarmhouse@gmail.com
I subscribed. :-)
For July 4th, we will be grilling out at home with our grown children. Just a calm, relaxing day at home.
As a family with small children, we like to do something spontaneous, whether it be to watch fireworks over a nearby farm or go to a small town display, or to an even a bigger city fireworks show, depending on where we are on the 4th. One year my aunt and uncle had a big family reunion at their house on Puget Sound. This year, to commemorate the day, I am personally aiming to finish a book on the liberties we have in the US due to our representative style of government and the many checks and balances of the system.
Thank you!
I just signed up - I don't want to miss a single post! Over here, in England, we don't celebrate 4th July. I am enjoying the roses in my garden as they bloom and bloom. x
I enjoyed reading how everyone plans to spend this Independence Day! There are so many good ideas. It is inspiring to read.
Thank you for taking the time to subscribe to the new service. I appreciate it very much!
The giveaway is now closed. The name of the winner has been added to the original post. She has already been notified. Thank you to all who entered!
Just a quick update: The original winner that had been announced, on June 28, 2021, did not respond. An alternate winner has been selected. This post has been updated with this change. Again, thanks to all who entered, and shared their Independence Day plans!
Mrs. White, Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I am so excited!!!
Looking forward to reading the books.
God bless,
