Stay in Touch and a Giveaway

There have been some changes to the blog that are difficult for me.   There has been a notification that one of the features, here at blogger, will no longer work.  This is the email subscription service that has been working since I started the blog in 2009.   I find the behind - the - scenes work of blogging to be a little frustrating and time - consuming. But I realize it is necessary.

I have been able to set up a new email service, but I would need you to sign up for this.   If you have already subscribed (in the past), I am asking you to re-subscribe through this new service. (The old service will stop working in July.)  I will share the link with you in just a moment.

Please subscribe to the New Email service:

In order to receive a notification from me, that a new blog post has been published, here at The Legacy of Home, please subscribe.  I will also do my best to send some kind of encouragement in each of the email notices.

Here is the link:

Click here to subscribe to The Legacy of Home blog.

The Giveaway:

As a thank you for going through this extra trouble, I would like to offer a giveaway.  I have a set of books available for one winner.  One person will be randomly selected to win 2 of my books:

1. "An Old Fashioned Budget: Humble Financial Management for the Christian Housewife

- paperback, 77 pages.

2.  "Homemaking for Happiness: Wonderful Days at Home"

- paperback, 307 pages.

To enter, all you have to do is leave me a comment, telling me your plans for this coming Independence Day.  Perhaps you will tell me how you are decorating your home or yard?  Maybe you will share with us a special menu for the day?  Do you have a childhood memory of your family spending the holiday together?  Perhaps you have a favorite quote, from history, which will inspire us. Whatever you would like to share, would be a blessing for us all to read!

One random winner we be selected on Monday, June 28, 2021. (U.S.  Entries only.) If I am unable to reach the winner within 48 hours, an alternate winner will be selected. Your entry is only valid if you include a way for me to contact you.

This contest is now closed.

Update: July 6, 2021:  The original winner, that had been announced on June 28, 2021, did not respond. An alternate winner has been selected. The new winner, of both the books, is Deanna.

Thank you for taking the time to set up a new subscription!

Blessings,

Mrs. White

We will be traveling to my brothers house for the 4th of July. They live about 4 1/2 hours North of us. Joe and I have gone to a plant based way of eating for health purposes so the eating will be a challenge. They are fixing sloppy joes so I will make lentil sloppy joes for us and take it with us. Have a blessed holiday.

For the Fourth weekend I decorate with flags. I’m from Ohio and bought 24 vintage small Ohio flags last year at a garage sale! We usually grill out and have a campfire. I also make cookies and use my antique red, white and blue vintage metal basket with wood handles. It too is vintage and I bought at an auction 30 years ago. I appreciate this Holiday even more than ever. Our founding fathers and patriots I believe were guided by God.

As for decoration for the Glorious 4th, we won't be making any changes as we always fly a flag by the door and another next to the water. Love Old Glory!
The Fourth comes on a Sunday this year, so there will be services first, followed by the parade in the afternoon, maybe taking a picnic lunch along. Hopefully, they will be having fireworks this year.
To top it off, I will add another year to my age. Best day of the year for a birthday. Family is scattered around the nation, so will only see a few, but will most likely receive several calls from those afar.

Unfortunately, my very hard-working husband has to work all day on Independence Day. We will be taking a vacation soon afterward though. My favorite memories of Independence Day are when we would get together with close family and eat hot dogs and watermelon (and fears that watermelon seeds would grow in my stomach lol). Sometimes we would spend time at the lake. Then we always ended the day with attending a community wide fireworks show.

I subscribed. I'm not sure what we will be doing for the 4th. The town fireworks have been canceled due to stage 2 fire restrictions. We are having severe drought situation and several wildfires burning.
When I was little my parents would always buy us fireworks at the local fireworks stands.

I forgot to mention I'm still trying to figure out MailChimp and putting the subscription button on my blog.

My family will celebrate Independence Day and my mother’s birthday with a cookout and banana split cake, and we will spend time with my in-laws during a churchwide pool party. My husband and I also plan to spend time talking to our children about the true meaning of Independence Day.

Hello Mrs. White. May you have a blessed 4th of July. I believe we will hang patriotic banners about our home, watch the fireworks display that our little town does, and eat festive foods. Last year due to the pandemic, the fireworks display was cancelled. This year it will be festive. As a child, we made homemade ice cream, watched the town fireworks along with a few of our own. Hot dogs and hamburgers are made to enjoy in the Summer heat. I'd be honored to receive your books!!!
Blessings and may you have a wonderful 4th.

I collect quotes. Here is a really good one I discovered recently:
If there is righteousness in the heart, there will be beauty in the character.
If there is beauty in the character, there will be harmony in the home.
If there is harmony in the home, there will be order in the nation.
If there is order in the nation, there will be peace in the world.
- a Scottish proverb

Pray for our nation!

Fourth of July is going to be extra happy at my house this year. Our son is coming in from New Mexico for a two week stay. We have not been able to see him since Covid started!!! We are very excited. So I will be cooking up a storm and cleaning. His room is partially ready. Please pray for a safe flight for him.
Take care and stay well.

We are having a cookout at Home, with Son and his Family. It is my Son's Birthday so it will be an extra celebration. We will use all foods out of our pantry, our biggest purchase will be a watermelon.
We use to go to the fireworks in the city but with covid and crime, it doesn't make sense to go in any longer.
We are wishing all a Happy Independence Day and may all remember what we are truly celebrating, our freedom.

This year I will be getting ready for my sons' and grandsons' visit! I have not seen them for almost 2 years because of covid and because they live far away. But they are coming to visit me for several days starting on July 8. In the past growing up, we always went to a parade somewhere and had a backyard cookout.

July 4 will probably be spent with a game of croquet in the front yard with the grandchildren and friends. The evening will be spent with our church, passing out Gospel tracts to the crowds gathered for the local fireworks display.

By the way, I think you'll be quite pleased with your change to MailChimp. I've been using it for several email lists for years, and it has been great. Look at it not as a burden, but as an improvement.

We are hosting 4th of July this year for my and my husband’s family. My father in law is a grill master so he’s helping us by grilling the steaks, and everyone else will bring a dish. I found some large yard letters at Walmart that spell “Let Freedom Ring”, which we will be displaying in celebration of the freedoms we hold dear here in America. To me, though, it’s also a reminder to keep praying that the Lord would be merciful to us and that we can continue to keep these freedoms.

Fourth of July is our favorite holiday! We have tons of red, white and blue themed foods, clothing, and decorations! The kids will do a small parade together in our yard. We light off a ton of fireworks. Our neighborhood looks like WW 3 as the whole neighborhood celebrates! We also send up a lantern in honor of our baby we miscarried a few years ago. We have lots of fun and smiles! It’s a great day!

Susan said...

For Independence Day this year, we will be preparing to travel to another state to see our first grandchild! Our granddaughter was born just a few days ago and a little bit early, but is doing well. The whole family will be celebrating our nation's independence by getting to know Liberty Anne! (How's that for a patriotic name?!)

Hello Mrs. White. I have signed up for future email notifications, thank you kindly. With this last year, we have all been affected in one way or another. What I would like to share is to take the time to appreciate the special people in your life. I'm not a big holiday person. Every day in my opinion is important. Let's appreciate the blessings we have in our life. Even when we are down, there is always something to be thankful for.

Mrs. White,
I pray you have a blessed 4th! My family will be patiently awaiting the day we can move into our new home this July. No bells and whistles this 4th as we stay with family until the home God blessed us with is ready. It has been a faith walk, but we cannot wait to have a home of our own. Thank you always for this lovely blog that carries on the truth of the joys of homemaking.<3

I’m not sure how we will be celebrating, as normally we do nothing (the neighbors give intense fireworks displays), but now we are blessed with additional family members in the area that enjoy celebrating.

Thank you for providing a way for us to stay in touch! We will be excited to celebrate July 4th this year as we will have our daughter home after being away for a year to study at a biblical school in the Montana wilderness! We will feast together with grilled meats and old traditional sides, topped off with blueberry pie! We will play games together outdoors and listen to early American instrumental music, laughing and enjoying each other’s company! And in the evening, instead of fireworks (outside our meager budget) we will watch the fireflies light up the grounds for us!! It will be a very lovely time of celebration! Many blessings to your family!

I'm following my years-in-the-making dream of trying out flower farming this year, and (fingers crossed), I'm hoping to be able to have red, white, and blue bouquets to offer those who have purchased a CSA bouquet subscription and for anyone else who wants to buy one! I love your blog and your books! Since the 4th of July is on a Sunday, we will be seeing my mother-in-law as usual (I've begun a sermon notebook as you suggested), and then we will go to my mom's that evening for burgers and to watch the fireworks as we do every year, since she lives on a hill overlooking a valley. Last year was SPECTACULAR. I've never seen more fireworks - it was nonstop in every direction for over six hours! It must have been because our horrible governor said the 4th was canceled and people were saying, Nope! Going to celebrate despite the shutdown. I have a feeling this year will be big, too! xo Janine

This year is a little different. We are having a revival service at our church on the 4th, so we will be in a service that evening. After service, we will shoot off our fireworks. It won't be dark until about 8 pm so that is when we will do them. As for the day, its a full grill of goodies and homemade sides and maybe cookies or a cake for dessert.

One of my favorite Independence Day memories was when I was pregnant with my twins. I lived on a 3rd floor apartment on the river in Jacksonville, Fl, and the stadium on the other side of the river had a big fireworks display. I was so big and uncomfortable, almost to my due date, and with my husband being at school in VA (in the Navy). But I watched alone from my balcony, with all the fireworks reflecting on the river, and I felt so proud and happy, and almost like the show was just for me. I still smile thinking about it, 30 years later!

Afterwards, the town is holding a celebration with food and music. I will be decorating with some patriotic faux flower arrangements and flags. I also wanted to say that I already purchased your budgeting book, so if I am lucky enough to win, I would love to get the Homemaking book and have you give the budget to another reader. Thanks for giveaway.

Thank you Mrs. White for the set-up and post regarding the ability to follow your blog. I had not figured out how to do that yet. I will look into Mail Chimp.

Since the 4th is on a Sunday, we will be going to church and then enjoying family over. I love the ladies comments about what they are doing. They give me wonderful ideas. I love to be creative for family gatherings.

I have, in years past, planned old fashioned games with croquet and a ring toss with balloons anchored on the ground.

Now we live in southern Colorado and the winds this time of year are...random and high , and one year it took our canopy with it a blew it across the yard. So our outdoor adventures are adjusted to most being indoors.

Ever year growing up, my parents and family had cookouts and just spent family time together. Some years there were fireworks and some years not, but family time to relax and just talk and enjoy a good meal was always happening. This year, I am missing both of my parents who has passed on and missing my sister who no longer speaks to me. As I type this, I am awaiting surgery on my legs due to 3 blood clots and bad varicose veins after 30 years of nursing shifts and a lot of standing and walking. I hope to be home by july3 rd and plan a cookout and reminiscing about old times growing up with my family and just enjoying us being able to gather again this year. I look so forward to decorating with my July quilts and red white and blue stars and plenty of July 4th decorated cakes and goodies!

We usually grill out for the 4th. My husband and I love to grill corn on the cob with butter and spices. We enjoyed this dish the 2nd summer we were married at an outdoor concert in the city park. My favorite childhood treat for Independence Day is cantaloupe with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. One eats the ice cream out of the melon "bowl" that is created when the cantaloupe is sliced in half.
Enjoy your 4th of July,
Leslie

Hi!

My son and his wife are visiting us on the 4th of July! They just got married in September and I still miss him but I'm happy he lives in town..for now:( My husband and I have been very happily married for 32 years. Empty nesting is not all bad, for sure, and I have a lovely and sweet daughter-in-love! My son's leaving home brought about all kinds of changes to our home since we gained an extra room. I have done lots of decluttering, re-arranging, and cleaning and I am very happy with it all.

As a family with small children, we like to do something spontaneous, whether it be to watch fireworks over a nearby farm or go to a small town display, or to an even a bigger city fireworks show, depending on where we are on the 4th. One year my aunt and uncle had a big family reunion at their house on Puget Sound. This year, to commemorate the day, I am personally aiming to finish a book on the liberties we have in the US due to our representative style of government and the many checks and balances of the system.

Thank you!
