This reminded me of something you wrote about your mother-in-law in the book "For the Love of Christian Homemaking" -
"Money was not an issue for her. If she had none, she went without. She did not complain or scheme to find a way to get some. She was content with whatever was provided for her."
Those words have stuck with me, and also with my daughter (a mother of three) when I shared it with her. Both she and I are having to manage the family finances with great discernment these days and those few words describing the attitude of your mother in law has been like a anchor...thank you.
Bless you so much,
JenniferJenny of Elefantzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02775654415138120426noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4718905863879655459.post-85448944487788779852024-03-15T18:26:17.260-04:002024-03-15T18:26:17.260-04:00Oh Mrs. White, I will sure be praying, that must h...Oh Mrs. White, I will sure be praying, that must have been a huge disappointment but like you write...What can you do? Well, this year, we didn't have that luxury. Our furnace broke at the end of last winter, and we were unable to get it fixed. God was good to us. The insulation that we were blessed with last summer helped keep us warm without the furnace.
We used space heaters, more clothes, baked and sometimes just sat in blankets next to the heaters. I'm so glad we had more than one.
Somehow, God took care of us, even during the sub zero temperatures and wind chills. You do what you have to do, but I must admit, I do hope to get it fixed for next winter.

I do hope you'll be able to get yours fixed, too.
Laura of Harvest Lane CottageMrs. Laura Lanehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17334381585683324912noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4718905863879655459.post-52268765193136175462024-03-15T10:34:06.146-04:002024-03-15T10:34:06.146-04:00I hope and pray that you can resolve the issues wi...I hope and pray that you can resolve the issues with your pellet stove sooner than later, Mrs. White, and without a great cost. I too love pretty calendars, the past few years I've treated myself to a Susan Winget calendar with art by Susan Winget of little sheep in country settings, it features Psalms 23. Half Price books actually has that same brand of calendars for $1.00 right now on clearance. I purchased mine from ChristianBook.com.

Let alone the cold cruel world, there is quite a bit of carnality these days everywhere and I'm especially shocked at the source at times. Where people are at, is rather shocking and the cruelty that comes out of people who claim to be Christians. In the past several weeks I've learned to stay within sweet company and concentrate on my own home, enjoying family and those precious grandchildren doing much as you have written. Oh what Peace!

Yesterday my husband was in surgery, and today I'm tending to his needs, the hospital staff was so sweet and wonderful. May I say the Lord went before us and both on the day we went for tests the lady had a beautiful prayer on the back of her computer and check in day yesterday another lady also had beautiful prayers on her desk. I took two of your books with me in the waiting room, a wonderful sweet time to read and pray. I took your homemaking book and the one I won with one with a vintage shot of a lady.

When our precious surgeon came in I looked up from your sweet book and smiled.

Bless you, Mrs. White. Praying for your trips and the needs, as you know, we fully understand and are walking the same path. And we are constantly exposed to the seedy elements of society, and crime and dishonesty. I like to think of Philippians 4:8, which encourages us to think of things that are lovely and honest and pure and virtuous. I have tried to stay away from news and spend more time in my Bible readings and just talk with the Lord throughout the day. It is a peaceful way to cope. There is really nothing I can do to solve the world's problems, but it IS my duty to spread the word of the Lord and do what I can for those around me that I can do something for!Patty Bhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04517005107291108592noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4718905863879655459.post-14539245334338126792024-03-06T05:44:06.569-05:002024-03-06T05:44:06.569-05:00Dear Anonymous, Yes there is a PO Box for those wh...Dear Anonymous, Yes there is a PO Box for those who would rather share in that way. We cared for the two grandchildren and the fact that I kept my general routine and that they all knew when meals were, that I would do the washing and that we read books before bed, made everyone calmer. We stayed at a holiday house but I brought familiar things with me and when the adults got stressed, I was calm for them and the children. It was very tiring to maintain but it made the 4 days so much more enjoyable and possible. I dressed simply as I do at home and we had fun activities but we all spoke carefully and kindly and tried to stay stable. It does make a difference. I am so glad to see that we can assist with your travel expenses for the medical appointments.
