Elvis Presley and Gospel Music

Elvis Pink Caddy

Years ago, I saw a documentary on the life of Elvis Presley. He came from a poor, hard-working family. Elvis used to sing in church and was dearly beloved by his godly mother.

He lived a fast life, had a beautiful home and was admired by many people. He is still an American icon. But what I remember most about him (and yes I was around when he was alive), was his gospel music.

From what I understand he would stay up all hours of the night, and sing the old gospel songs, with several other singers.

His Mother loved The Blackwood Brothers, and I love them too! Such beautiful, heart touching music!

I have a CD Set of Elvis singing gospel music and I love to listen to it while working around the house.

I want to share a song of the Blackwood Brothers singing "Where No One Stands Alone." There is just something special about going back in history and hearing the old ways, the old songs and the nostalgia of seeking to live a godly  life.

  1. I remember reading years ago, and I don't know the accuracy of this report, that after he became very famous Elvis wanted to branch out into singing and producing whole gospel albums for sale to the public, but was discouraged by his manager. His manager believed it would be the death of Elvis' career. I have remembered this from time to time and wonder if his life might have been different if he had followed his heart in this matter.

    He had a wonderful voice.

  7. When I was a child in my neighborhood there was a Gospel Church and I used to want to go inside everytime I passed by...this was in Astoria-Queens, NY...and wished Catholics sung like that in church, lol! Elvis is my idol, he's voice was gorgeous and no one like The King. Thanks for sharing at Pink Sat. Happy New Year.

  10. We saw him in a small town in East Texas when he was just starting. Loved his voice then and until his death. His version of How Great Thou Art is great. I have a several of his albums. My sister has the sign from his front gate with his and many other signatures on it. Her father-in=-law worked for him.
