Presents to Cheer Me Up

Campbell's, Soup Gifts Presents Shopping, USA, 1930

I was cheerful most of the day. But trials and sorrows came out of nowhere. I did my best to remain happy through it all. My outlook was good. I was brave. But one too many things happened, and I could not say with Luther, "Strike, Lord, Strike; and spare not!" I was too weary. And I was crying.

Night came. Matthew (17) had his coat on. He flashed a charming smile and said we were going out. "I will buy you presents," He told me.

We all got into the car. Matthew was the driver (he has his permit). The children sat in the backseat. I sat in the passenger seat.

We stopped at the first store. He bought me a ginger ale (my favorite)!

We stopped at the second store. He bought me a box of Andes creme mint-cookies. I was delighted!

Sometimes we just need a few minutes of refreshment to help us keep going. Sometimes, a little kindness is all it takes.

But presents from my son are best of all!

  1. Awww! How sweet!! My son bought me a Pumpkin Spice Latte last Friday night. I was very touched! They don't part with their money very easily! ;)

  2. Matthew is a sweet boy and a loving son. I've often heard that the way a man treats his mama is the way he'll treat his wife. If so, Matthew's future bride will be lucky indeed. Hope things are going better for you now.
