Waking Up to a Cozy Kitchen
It was cold this morning. I went in to the kitchen and started tidying things up. It had been Amy's (15) turn to clean the kitchen after supper last night. She didn't finish all her work. (I am just grateful for helpers, it's okay if they don't do a perfect job.)
I turned on some Christmas music on my CD player, put on my blue gingham apron and started to clean. Everyone was still sleeping. After another hour went by, I thought it was time for them to wake up. But teenagers are difficult to get out of bed.
Have you ever had a hard time waking up a teen? They could sleep all day long if we let them! Sometimes, I have to use my coach's whistle to make a piercing noise and then I run! That does the trick. But who wants grumpy teens who wake up to that horrid sound? (smiles) [I bought the whistle years ago, from a sports store, because I can't yell loud enough for my children to hear me.]
I thought about all these things while I worked. Then I realized the scent of delicious food would bring them out of bed. I would love for them to jump up each morning, wondering what delightful food their mother had prepared.
So I baked a batch of chocolate chip muffins. It added an intriguing aroma to our kitchen. Before long, I was no longer cold. My kitchen was full of warmth and love and care.
I wanted my children to wake up to a cozy kitchen and they did!

ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely idea. I have a very hard time waking up my two teenage sons but I suspect that the smell of muffins would help. :) I'll have to try that tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteI have been reading your blog for a couple of months now and enjoy the sweet spirit of your posts and how home-centered they are. Thank you.

ReplyDeleteAaaah, yes...waking up teenagers...a fine art, indeed! Great idea with the chocolate chip muffins :-) The smell of fresh coffee brewing always gets me awake, but my sons (18 and 17) won't touch the stuff yet, so that won't do it for them. But baking...works every time!

ReplyDeleteCreative idea for waking your teens!! They do like to sleep forever, don't they??? You can always try the method used in the movie, The Pacifier! :)
