Leaving the Blog World

"American Homestead" 1869 by Nathaniel Currier.

Dear Readers,

I wanted to send you a little warning note.  Sometime next week, I will stop blogging.  We are losing our Internet access.  In the past, I have been able to get around computer and Internet troubles, by visiting my local library and writing sporadically. However, at this point, I cannot get up the energy or the time to write while away from home. It would be too difficult.

Most of my writing is done by an open window, here at the Estate, in the spring and summer. This is when little ones are napping or the sun has not yet risen.  Those are the quiet moments when I can write.  At other times, I might be in the kitchen finishing up some homemade biscuits or making dinner. While the food was cooking, I would sit by the fire in winter and write.

Writing while away from home is not something I can manage.

Over the next few days, I will try to finish up some blog posts that are obligations (a homeschool review comes to mind.)  I had also planned to share a tour of the interior of our house.  We won't have time to finish up our projects and get a post ready in time.  I deeply apologize for this disappointment.

I will also announce my new book that has just been published. It is my last book as far as I can see.  I started working on it a few months ago.  It is about being an old fashioned Christian housewife. I have received all kinds of questions, through email and comments, about being a housewife in today's financially difficult world and wanted to write this book to meet that need.  I hope to announce it early next week.   I hope you will be watching for it!

Since I won't be here, I dearly hope those of you who have been reading my blog, and who have enjoyed my books, that you will encourage others to visit here. The archives will remain.  I also hope you will recommend my books, which will continue to be available for sale on Amazon.

Some of you have my address and are welcome to write to me via regular mail.  I will do my best to write back.  I will also try to check my email every other month or so, if I am able to visit the library.

I had hoped to start a little newsletter to share my visits by regular mail, since I cannot write here anymore. I don't know if that will be possible. But it is an idea. (If this does happen, I will place the information on the sidebar of the blog before the end of next week.)

I expect my last post will be the announcement of my book.  Thank you so much for your constant encouragement and kindness over the last 5 years.  I will miss you!

Blessings
Mrs. White

  1. Mrs. White, I am so sad to read this post. I have been a quiet but faithful reader for over a year now. You are a huge inspiration to me. You make me feel like a kitchen full of dirty dishes and two fussy babies are a pleasure and a privilege. I was especially encouraged by your article, "the kitchen is ready!". In fact I wrote it on a paper and taped it to my refrigerator next to my calendar. Also, I live in hot and humid Florida and while it has its own joys, I love hearing about your cozy Vermont estate. May I be on your list to receive your newsletter should it ever come into being? How can I contact you to give you my information? I am sincerely sorry to see you go. Your sweetness and gentle faith has truly improved my character. Affectionately, Jennifer

  3. Dear Mrs. White,

I am deeply saddened that you will no longer be sharing your wisdom and your gentle way of living with us. You are often a great inspiration to me.

I do hope you will consider an occasional post when it is possible. I will keep checking back.

May God bless you and increase your provision to meet every need and some of your wants, too.

Father God, I ask that you would sell one of those cows on your thousand hills and bless the Whites. I ask it respectfully in Jesus' Name. Amen.

    God bless you dearie,

  4. Mrs. White, I, too, am saddened that I won't be hearing your gentle and encouraging voice here. You have painted such lovely and encouraging word pictures of home for us. I pray the Lord continues to bless you as you bless those around you, esp those dear grandbabies. I look forward to hearing about your book.

  8. Dear Mrs. White,

Oh, I am so sad to read this post! I can't remember exactly when I found your blog, but it has been a tremendous blessing and encouragement to me! I am going to pray that you will somehow be able to keep your internet. Your blog is more than just a blog. It is a ministry. You have a way with words that I believe is truly a gift from God. I have printed out many of your posts and have my own little folder for them. I've written notes on them, highlighted them, etc. I haven't worked my way through all of your posts yet, so I appreciate you leaving them here so I, as well as others, may benefit from them. God bless you and your family.

  9. I think a newsletter would be great! I subscribe to a few "handwritten" newletters now and I enjoy receiving them quarterly. The subscriptions run about 15.00. One is bound with yarn each time and one is just stapled. Very simple but provides an income for the stay at home moms. Just a thought!

  11. Dear Mrs. White,
I want to thank you for your refreshing encouragement and faithful work. I am sorry that you will no longer be able to keep up this blog. So many of my days have been uplifted by your gentle online presence! And I am not yet a wife at home, I am waiting still. You have given me so much confidence about my desire to stay home and much comfort that I am not alone in believing as I do. God bless you and your family.

  13. How sad to hear that we will no longer be able to receive your gentle reminders of how blessed we are to have homes and husbands and babies to take care of. Your writing is very unique as God gives us each our own talents. Will you be keeping the blog up on the net so we can keep coming back to look again at your past posts? I feel blessed to have been here and been able to read so many of your posts. Take care and enjoy the extra time you will now have with your loved ones. Thank you for taking the time to be a mentor and friend via the internet with us... Sarah

  14. I want to thank you for your blog and wish you well with your future projects. As a homemaker with a chronic medical issue, I found your attitude to be a true inspiration. It was unusual to find a homemaking blog that showed so honestly every side of being a homemaker on a budget, not just the best parts. That was the most inspiring thing - the way you showed how we can persevere even through difficulties, and most of us do encounter difficulties. I bought one of your books and I truly enjoyed it. I look forward to your next book!

  19. Dearest Mrs. White, I am deeply saddened to read this post. As a homemaker for over 30 years and a someone who has 4 autoimmune diseases, you have given me courage many days to keep smiling through. We too live very frugally. We have been a one income family in a two income world for 27 years. Our home/property where we raised/homeschooled our children was also 100 years old.
So... All that to say I have felt a liked mindedness a kinship to the words you write. I've been a follower of your blog for years and am always excited when a new post shows up in my mailbox. I will miss your gentle spirit and words of wisdom. Thank you for sharing.. Please include me in your newsletter if you should choose to do it. Many blessings to you and your family

  22. Mrs. White,
What a sad, sad morning this is to turn on my computer and see that you will have to leave us. For about two years now I have had your blog set as my homepage. Your blog is the first thing I read and I was always so excited to find a new post from you. We have some things in common and I am always so touched, and amazed by the way in which you handle your obstacles. You have truly been an inspiration to me. You have helped me to deal with things in a gentler, more peaceful way. You have helped me to see my homework as more of a blessing than something to just get done and over with. You are much appreciated and surely will be missed.
    Take care,
    Dianne

  23. You have such a unique voice, it will definitely be missed. I am very different from you---I am Jewish, very liberal, I only have one child, I live on the opposite side of the country---but I have enjoyed reading your posts because of what we share: a dedication to home and family while persevering through financial hardship and personal health challenges. Please do post information about a newsletter, as I would really like to continuing hearing your story and learning from your wisdom.

You have been such an inspiration to so many, a living saint in our own times! We draw strength for our day from your posts, your living example of patience and courage.
So sad and sorry not to be able to look forward to your blog, but hope that in God's time, you might be able to continue this ministry beyond the walls of your beautiful estate and family. If not, then God bless you for all you've so faithfully shared with us, and may He continue to bless you and your lovely family.

  46. Dear fellow sister in Christ, Mrs White. You have changed many people's lives for the better, I know because mine is one of them. I have taken inspiration, and much needed wisdom from you to turn around disasters in my home and home life which through ignorance and not being taught principles of the home caused much hurt and distress. Now through your efforts and those of others such as Lydia Sherman and June Fuentes, ours is now a Godly home and we are becoming a Holy and Godly family, as God intended for us from the beginning of our marriage journey. I am very saddened as a good work of God, very much needed in todays world has been taken away from us, and as I see it, a victory to the Lord's adversary as only he wants to see this site shut down. I bless you and your good work, for working for the kingdom is what you are doing. I thank you for all that you have done for me and my family, and I pray that a light will shine through this and you will find a way to return to bless us. Love and blessings to you and your beautiful family. Antonia

  47. I am so sorry to see you go. Thank you for all of the encouragement. Yours was the first blog I found about taking care of the home. It has always been my job and now that the kids are grown and gone I was feeling a bit useless. When I found your blog it made me realize I went from a stay at home mom to a full time housewife and it was wonderful. It was ok that I did not want to venture out in the world for a paycheck. Thank you so much for all of your encouragement and I will be checking back here often. I still have not read all of your entries and I will enjoy them. Take care of yourself and your family. Best blessings, Lori

  48. Dear Mrs. White,

Although I have only been visiting your blog for just a short period of time, I have come to appreciate and welcome your posts with great anticipation. I am deeply saddened by your decision, but am also respectful of the circumstances surrounding it. Thank you for the godly insights and tips on how to become a better Christian homemaker. I have to admit that because of your posts, I am loving and am joyful everyday as I take on my responsibilities as a Christian homemaker, wife and mother, challenges and all. I am rejoicing! Thank you for your sincerity and humbleness. You and your family will remain in my prayers. Although we do not know what the good Lord has in store, I am confident that the God "Elroy" knows everything. He is a faithful God! Until then, keep your eyes on the prize, and the Grace of Jesus Christ be with you (2 Corinthians 13:14).

    Blessings,
    Yolanda
