I've had a few rough Decembers, here in Vermont. But this season has come with many blessings. We have been able to buy extra groceries, give to those in need, and pay all of our bills. We have much to be thankful for.
This morning, I am baking apple pies. We are having baked ziti for an early dinner. All my children will be home. I can't wait to see them.
Mr. White and our 22 year old daughter will head to the home of an elderly neighbor and bring him treats and presents. They will be home in time for dinner.
I love that most of the stores are closed and that everyone has the day off from work. There is no focus today on spending money, but on bringing happiness and good cheer to others.
Yet there are many who are sad and alone today. I found Frank Sinatra's song, "I'll Be Home For Christmas" which is so sweet. But he ends the song with, "if only in my dreams." Something that cheers me up is thinking about childhood Christmas memories, or some special year when my own children were young. Do you have memories you'd like to share? I'd love to hear about it!
Blessings
Mrs. White

I have countless memories about Christmas, all from faraway...always remembered as something like fairy tales...Christmas was very traditional for us, nothing like the commercialized ones seen here...
ReplyDeleteMidnight mass, Yule log, greens purchased on the market place, hot chestnuts purchased from street vendors and the lighting of thetree...followed by Boxing Day of course once I was married...
I'll be home for Christmas is a favourite of ours...
May His light shine upon you and yours always and Merry Christmas!
I have wonderful Christmas memories of time spent on my grandparen'ts small farm in Texas. Few gifts were exchanged, and the food was simple but plentiful. We especially looked forward to Memaw's baked treats for us kids. All us cousins would sleep on the floor on pallets of quilts sewed by Memaw. We didn't get a lot of sleep on those nights due to excessive whispering and giggling but had wonderful times.
ReplyDeleteI'm an ex-pat from England, and it seems to be the smallest things that I miss--poppers, the bourbon ball (certainly no bourbon after one lights it afire!), the lack of toys and buying the 'right' present and instead enjoying cookies and treats, the old-fashoined Christmas note (it seems I'm the only one that sends them here in the US anymore!) and of course, my father reading the book of John on Christmas day BEFORE the presents were opened--oh, bring on the memories!
