A Challenge in the New Year

LOC: 1919 poster.  Reminder of home ideals of daily Bible reading.

One of the nicest challenges in the New Year is to commit to a daily reading of the Bible.  Many of us can remember sitting around the living room and hearing the Scriptures being read for the benefit of the family.  In the old days, a Mother would send her grown children off into the world with a reminder to read the Bible each day and to remember to say their prayers.

In the hope that I may be of help with getting into a habit of daily Bible reading, I put together a Challenge in the form of a book.  This was originally published in 2013, but was just updated into a newer and nicer edition. (The cover is a photograph of the river bordering our property, here in Vermont.) The book is called, "Early Morning Revival Challenge" and offers a 90-Day Bible study.  It was inspired by the writings of the famous minister, John Wesley.

The assignments include writing in a journal, reading Psalms and Proverbs, prayer, and reading quotes from Ministers of long ago.  I gathered together 90 quotes from old books in my home library from Puritan Thomas Boston, Charles Spurgeon, John Wesley, Richard Baxter, and many more. There is one quote for each day of the study.

Sample pages from inside the book.

Readers are challenged to rise earlier in the morning than normal to do the daily assignments. This discipline will help bring a revival into your life!

Who Would Enjoy the Book:

1. Teens in youth group or Sunday School.
2. An informal Bible Study Group (perhaps they can each get a copy and check in with each other on their progress.)
3. Homeschool students (high school or college age)
4. Adults
5. A Wonderful gift idea for family and friends.

This updated book is now available in paperback. I hope you find it helpful!

Thank you for this new Challenge. I read through the Bible each year and would be lost without reading Proverbs for each new day as well as a Psalm or two. The Puritans have so much wisdom to share. I am grateful to them for writing down what the Lord had shared with them. It has helped me immensely. May God bless your New Year!

This sounds like just the sort of book I'd love Mrs. White. I'll have to wait until I can purchase an Amazon card, as I do not have a credit card, but hopefully soon. I keep a file of quotes from Spurgeon, Tolzer, Bunya, etc. on Pinterest, it would be nice to have them permanently in a book. Have a wonderful week!

Hugs
Jane

This will be our second year writing scripture daily. We are writing all of Genesis this year. It has been such a blessing!

The Psalms and Proverbs remind us we must be in God's Word. Loving his commands, precepts and statues! How nice that you have prepared this to help those that struggle with daily reading.

Both my dearest and myself have a routine of Bible Reading, studying and prayer journals.

Thanks for the encouragement you bring to your blog friends.

Sending love,
Wanda

I just ordered this book as I have all of your books in all these years that we have known each other and I can't wait for it to get here! I'm still going through your Serving in the Kitchen book and I'm enjoying every second of it!
