Snow Days at Home

Last night's view of our outdoor tree, at our property in Vermont.

It has been snowing for days. I keep looking out the window at the quiet scene of white across the landscape. It is peaceful and lovely.

We had quite a storm last night. It was the perfect time to get a picture of our outdoor Christmas tree on the front grounds. We bundled up in coats, gloves, and an umbrella. We trudged through snow and wind and cold to walk around to the front of the property. The snow was falling heavily around us. It was beautiful despite all the trouble. The struggle was worth all the effort to see the peaceful scene before us.  As soon as the pictures were taken, we happily went back inside to get warm by the wood stove.

There is a calm today. We are grateful to be able to stay home for a few days. I will bake bread this morning and do a little organizing. I have sewing projects and writing projects I want to work on, but there is only so much time and energy for such things.

The basics of home have to be the priority. I will sweep and do dishes. I will make simple meals and keep things tidy. I am so grateful for snow days when I can putter around the house at a slow pace. This is the perfect time to do the daily work in a restful way.

If I am able to get my work done by afternoon, I hope to settle myself in the guest room and watch a cheerful Christmas movie on television.

I am grateful for your visits and comments! Thank you for being here!

Enjoy cozy days of homemaking!

Blessings

Beautiful tree and deer decoration! We certainly have plenty of snow days up here in northwest Minnesota, pretty much November to April 1st! (Sometimes October to almost May). But I don't mind. The snow is lovely here in the woods where we live. When the frost is on all of the trees and everything is coated in white it is just breathtakingly gorgeous. The peace and beauty of the winter woods is a gift from the Lord. Winter gives me plenty of time to catch up on embroidery, quilting and reading.

We too are having heavy storms here this week, high winds and lashing rain causing flooding in some parts. Your tree looks so pretty in the snow.

Oh Mrs. White, I have no idea what it would be like to walk in the snow all bundled up to see a lovely decorated Christmas Tree on your own property. There is much I love about Southern CA, weather wise, but our state is in terrible shape, so much corruption, evil and as a State, no love of God or Family. But this is where God has planted us, so we are grateful and we are close to our family as it grows!
I love my little home. I love the kitchen and as you were making bread, I was baking cookies as living in a complex with Senior and Family units, I have an array of children coming to my door for cookies since I'm known here as "The Cookie Lady". My goal this year is to share the meaning of Christmas with them as I know many only think it's about presents and activities. Pray I can reach these little hearts.
I love a tidy home, and enjoy doing it. Also like to relax when the work is done with a Christmas movie. Been listening to Christmas music as I was baking. Love and Hugs, dear friend, and Blessing because of Jesus.

Beautiful thoughts, Mrs. White! Thank you for sharing; your posts are always encouraging. I read a definition of “puttering” that I loved - doing the small chores around the house that no one else sees or wants to do, and that no one will notice after you’ve done them. It’s my favorite thing to do, though, because I find that my family may not notice the tasks I completed, but they do feel the warmth and holiness of a cozy tidy home. :)

Such a beautiful tree! We got over 40 inches here in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, but we're used to it:) We heat solely with wood so it's always nice to bake and warm the back end of "this old house." Our trees are all snow-covered and picturesque and preparing for a deep freeze of single digits. But, like you, would never live anywhere else.
