Made to Crave book and DVD by Lysa Terkeurst

Product - Made to Crave book and Companion DVD.

Author - Lysa Terkeurst

Publisher - Zondervan

The Book:

Lysa, the president of Proverbs 31 Ministries, has created a life changing approach to handling food in our lives. In her book, Made to Crave, she teaches readers how to desire God rather than food. Chapters include topics such as: Getting a Plan; Overindulgence, Why Diets Don't Work, Emotional Emptiness, Growing Closer to God and much more.  She shares short personal stories and Bible passages to help illustrate her points, and really drive them home in an eye-opening way.

A sample passage from the book, (Page 73, 74):

"If we make the choice to be Jesus girls who offer our willingness to exercise self-control and perseverance to the glory of God, we can lose weight, get healthy, and walk in confidence that it is possible to escape the cycle of losing and gaining back again.  We can be victorious. We can step on the scale and accept the numbers for what they are - an indication of how much our body weighs - and not an indication of our worth."

The DVD:

Designed for women's groups, Bible studies or individual use, it contains 6 teaching sessions. Lysa is an amazing speaker who has a great sense of humor. She is an excellent teacher and shares her godly wisdom in such a way that you cannot help but take notes.

Some of what I gleaned from viewing this DVD:

1. We need to remain "food pure," and overcome temptation.
2. If we get in a desperate situation ("starving to death"), we will fail. We must pre-plan what we will eat to prevent this from happening.
3. "Too much food = unrestrained pleasure."
4.  The question - "Why can't I indulge?" is explained by defining indulgence and self-control.
5. The missing link is spiritual motivation so we can have peace. (Rather than feeling guilty for eating 2 pieces of cake, etc. We can practice self-denial and grow closer to God, the source of our happiness and comfort.) [This is not to say we cannot eat cake, but we cannot be gluttons or overindulge.]

Final thoughts:

I highly recommend this set of resources. Both the Book and DVD are excellent. Here in America, we are rich in food. We need to learn to understand the process of cravings and where our true source of fulfillment can be found. This is perfect for anyone seeking a right relationship with food, God and good health!

Last year I had the opportunity to work at Lysa's product table at an EWomen conference. She is a great lady!
