When our five children got older, they were less likely to enjoy a nice breakfast at home. They were often in a rush to head out the door, or just wanted to sleep late!
Last week, I was watching an old movie,
Love Finds Andy Hardy,
(from 1938) starring Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland. "Andy" lived in a lovely house in a charming neighborhood. His Father was a judge. His mother was at home. She cooked all the meals and was a delightful, practical homemaker. What intrigued me the most was how the family sat down for breakfast,
together, each morning.
The table was set with a sugar bowl and creamer. There were lovely plates, silverware, napkins and coffee cups. The family sat down and enjoyed a nice breakfast together before heading off to work, school, or to start the day at home.
We live in such a rush - rush society today, that I wonder how many families still set a
formal table for breakfast?
This morning, I think I will do this. I better hustle and get to work! The family will be awake soon.
Perhaps I will bake fresh muffins and set them out on a bowl, in the center of the table, with a nice linen napkin over them?
I can't wait!

Sounds like a wonderful start to the day!! Blessings, Dawn
I have thought about doing this as well. I may start tomorrow. Being a working mother when everyone is out the door by 6:30 a.m. - I tend to be lazy in the morning. I am going to change this! Thanks for the encouragement!
By the way, I simply love your recommendations for movies and books. I watched "Cheaper by the Dozen" for the first time and I am reading "Mama's Bank Account". I'm putting the Andy Rooney movies on my Netflix account now. :)
I love the Andy Hardy movies and watched that one not too long ago (my aunt has cable and she recorded it for me...YEAH!). Anyway, enjoyed your post! Always do! Love you!

Oh, I love those old Andy Hardy movies! I had forgotten about them. I wonder if they are on Netflix? I will have to check! I am in the mood to watch one now!!! :)
I know what you mean about breakfast! We only have a big breakfast on the weekends, but still not formal like what you are talking about! I did surprise my family yesterday by making pumpkin pancakes! It was a treat to have a special breakfast during the week! :)
While breakfast is often simple, we usually sit together as a family and my husband does a lesson on Proverbs. As a homeschooling mother of 5, it does start the day off better to have a calm family meal.
My mother-in-law always sets a full breakfast table, even with a housefull on Sunday mornings...with ONE bathroom. Somehow, breakfast is eaten together, the dishes are washed, people are presentable and we are mostly on time for church. Just returned from a lovely week-end there. Between her and your teachings, I have learned to not whine about difficult circumstances. She is a wonderful example of a godly wife and mother.
