Finding Lovely Things in a Busy Home

Beautiful flowers on our Parlour Table

Lately I have not had much energy to make things look pretty around here.  I have been busy taking care of little grandbabies and trying to keep house.  It is a whirlwind of activity but it all is happening at my very favorite place - my home.

Each day, to help brighten my day and keep things cheerful, I take a few minutes to look at something lovely.  This is often just the landscape out the window. It was raining so much the last few days, that the grandbabies and I have been enjoying the prettiness of nature out the front window.

I also love to notice the simple paintings on the walls of our staircase.  As I hold a toddler's hand, walking slowly down the stairs, baby holds the banister while I look at the pictures of birds and snowy winter scenes on wooden paintings.

My kitchen reminds me of elegant poverty with it's homemade touches.  I love to make my tea in the morning while looking at a French lace curtain (given to me by a very dear reader) at the edge of my kitchen.  My CD player is by the dish drainer. I love to turn on old gospel music and listen while we serve dinner at the table in the evenings.

These little touches of simple elegance throughout our rural old house bring cheer and happiness.  No matter how tired we are from the work we do each day; no matter how noisy the grandbabies are; having beauty in our home and among the grounds of our Estate are so important.

Yet, the loveliest thing that brings me the most peace and joy, is the sight of my old, worn Bible. It quiets and calms me.  It is the most cherished possession I own.

I, too, have a simple home, but am blessed with things that bring me joy just to look at them! It's a gift from God to be content with our blessings, isn't it!

Dear Mrs.White, we must be kindred spirits! I too am blessed and refreshed looking upon the "treasures" we have gathered in our home. And it's so much fun to share their stories when our granddaughters visit. Thank you for reminding us that "simple pleasures" can be the best.
