Beautiful Devotion after the Rain

This picture was taken down the street from our Vermont Estate, just after the rain, a few days ago.
(Click on the photograph to make it larger.)

I have been reading old books like "The Flower of the Family," by Elizabeth Prentiss (1800's) and "Choice Stories for the Family" (1905).  The second book is full of short fictional stories and beautiful poems for the edification of the family. It has been a time of precious devotion.

I was out on errands with my 19 year old son after several days of rain. As we were nearing home, he noticed a rainbow in the sky.  I pulled the car over and took the picture (above).  It is so peaceful looking, and reminds us of the promises of the Lord.

This morning, I came across a poem by Horatius Bonar in a 1905 book. I thought it would be perfect to put on the photograph.  Horatius Bonar was a minister during the 1800's in Scotland. He also wrote many hymns and poems. His writings are incredible and provide great spiritual nourishment for the soul.

Our book club was sitting outside Monday night and saw a complete double rainbow! It was spectacular. Rainbows always feel like a precious word direct from the Lord.
Love all those old books, too. What fiction written today can be read as a devotional? Blessings to you Mrs. White. xo

I love "Flower of the family." We too had a rainbow here ( a double actually!!) The children and I had just finished reading a Sugar Creek Gang book. The main character's mother had just walked outside and saw a rainbow saying quietly, " I will put a bow in the sky"...as she was walking along.
He remembers that later in the book.

God's promises.....

What a wonderful thought, so very true... first the dark and then the light, first the grave, and then the resurrection! First the storm, and then the rainbow. May we remember this in times of darkness! Beautiful picture you took, and what a lesson to share with your son!

What a lovely and timely poem!

The book I have won here, 'Living on His Income' is wonderful. I have so enjoyed reading the book, being around half way through, I share the same thoughts and feelings. The book is a breath of fresh air in this culture of ours. I feel like I have a little coffee buddy in this sweet book.

Blessings to you and thank you so much for the book, it's a little rainbow for me at this time. It's so nice to see a fellow blogger who speak love in deed as well as word.

Once again...God's Blessings to you!
