A Winter Morning at Mrs. White's Vermont Estate. |
Vermont is very cold this time of year. The temperature has often lingered well below zero. I have been staying home, much like "a shut-in," throughout this snowy month. It has been 20 days since I went out. My last outing was to church, almost three weeks ago. I have been cozy indoors and waiting out the cold winter.
The other morning, I wanted to take a little walk around the property. It was bitterly cold, but so pretty and quiet outside. I bundled up and took my camera with me.
In the first picture, above, the sun had barely risen. You can also see what looks like fog among the trees. It is actually snow blowing up from the ground, dancing in the sunlight. It looks amazing!
I could not bear more than a few minutes of this cold and had to rush back in the house for tea and cake. I needed to sit by our wood pellet stove and get warm!
On a recent afternoon, my husband took a few pictures. He let me share a couple of them with you.

The snowplow comes regularly here to keep our driveway clear. The picture above shows a large snow-pile. Our snow season often begins in October and is frequent throughout the winter months. It tends to pile up, and usually stays (to some degree) on the ground all winter long.

A recent storm has left us with over 2 feet of snow out front. This has been sitting here for several days. It looks beautiful! Sometimes, we see heavy snow falling slowly and steadily throughout the day. It reminds me of watching a snow-globe as I gaze out the window.
[Edited to update with more photographs on February 1, 2019]
My husband took some pictures of the river, which borders the back of our Estate. I have three of those pictures to share here:

We have a bit of a cliff on our land where the river borders the property. It is a great protection which separates our Estate from the water.

The sound of this river is so relaxing. It is such a peaceful sight to see.

Honestly, I could just stare at this river for hours. It is so pretty. The snowy background, on the trees and ground beside the river, is stunning.
Thank you for taking a little winter walk with me on our property. I enjoyed visiting with you.
I hope you are staying warm and enjoying the beauty of winter!
Blessings
Mrs. White

It is lovely there, but BRRRR on the cold, lol.
Perhaps next time you are out, you could take some pics of the river behind your house? I'd love to see it dressed in white. I bet it's gorgeous!
What a lovely winter scene, but I don't blame you for staying inside and enjoying it from the window! Stay cozy.

Lovely photos. It reminds me of when I lived in Korea over 40 years ago, and the snow would pile up over our heads. I had a small dog who would rush headlong into a snow drift, then come bursting out of the top of the pile! Stay warm, sweet lady.
Tammy, I am delighted you mentioned the river! I was selecting photographs to share, from my husband's camera, and saw ones he took of our river. I added them to the post just now. Thank you for mentioning it. I hope you are staying warm!
Thank you Emma! It is lovely to stay indoors!
Evelyn, I had no idea it snowed in Korea! What an adventure it must have been to live there. Your dog sounds entertaining! I hope you are staying warm too!
Thank you, and Mr. White so much. Your river is stunning! How blessed you are to have it.
Yes...finally got the comments section....and the picture of the creek....beautiful!
Oooh you can almost feel the cold looking at these beautiful photos and reading your words here.
You live in a gorgeous part of the world, even with the cold I would enjoy living with your surroundings, just beautiful.
I loved seeing your walkway carved out of the snow.
That river...Oh my that is lovely!
Thank you for sharing your beauty with us.
Thank you so much for the beautiful photos! Amazing amounts of snow!
Mrs. White, Yes, it snows in Korea, it's called the Frozen Chosan for a good reason! Yes my little dog was adorable, I found her in a pet shop in Seoul, and I named her Kae Go Gi, which is Korean for dog stew (yes, I had a weird sense of humor back then). BTW, I recently got you book, Living On His Income--wonderful and inspiring, can't wait to get your home economics one!
Your pictures are beautiful but it looks COLD!
I think it's great that you enjoy being all snug in your cozy home. I'd be doing the same thing.
Thank you for the glimpse of your property.
Oh, I could feel the cold just looking at the photos! The cut away walk is beautiful, it reminds me of icing on a cake, although I can understand the labor of the walkway is not exactly something to be desired. Brrrr.....
The river, oh yes, the relaxing sounds...So peaceful and so very pretty too.
Thank you for sharing. It's always a peaceful blessing to come and visit. It's nice you are in your cozy home there.
Blessings to you, Amelia
Dear Mrs. White, You have really received the snow. More so than here in my neighborhood. Enjoyed seeing the pictures. I am ready for SPRING to arrive. One more deep snow would be alright, then beyond ready for Spring. Once in a while I enjoy the cold crisp air to breathe in.
Blessings to you,
d
I enjoy your blog, Mrs. White. And I've especially enjoyed pictures of your estate this winter season. Being from the south, we rarely get snow or ice, but when we do, watch out! We panic and huddle inside our homes, not being accustomed to such temperatures. Considering we don't have the infrastructure to clean up the roads, it is just as well we stay put. (However, we handle 90+ degree weather very well!)
The angle of the photos makes it look as if your husband is standing in the middle of the river to take the picture! Good photography, that! Stay warm!
Your property is absolutely beautiful and those words don't express it well enough! You are so blessed to be living set apart in nature, even with the severe cold. But most people don't live in that kind of cold unless they appreciate the seasons and I see that you do. I love the pictures you have shared with us.
Stay warm and enjoy that cup of tea (with cake, of course!).
Beautiful river ~ I love listen to water flowing across rocks, I could sit there for hours as well. I hope spring comes your way soon.
My word, you definitely do get a lot of snow there in Vermont! I just loved seeing the pictures of your beautiful estate, and the rushing river on the back of your property, how delightful it would be to see it year round! Such incredible beauty! Glad that you have such a warm stove to warm up too! It has been cold here, but not as cold as where you are. Thank you for sharing your beautiful pictures! Blessings and hugs :)
I am so excited. My birthday was yesterday, and this morning the mailman brought a gift that a friend ordered for me--THREE of your books! I have always loved reading your blog, and now I have more wonderful things you have written to enjoy and instruct. I just wanted to say thank you for your blog, the encouragement and joy it has brought to my life the past few years is priceless. God bless you and your family.
I am so thankful for all of you.... Your comments and encouraging words about the pictures!
The beauty of the outdoors, at this time of year, makes up for the cold weather.
Thank you so much for visiting!
Oh Evelyn! I hope you had a very happy birthday!!! Thank you so much for your very kind words!! God bless you!
