A Calm After the Storm

Painting by Jan Verhas, 1896.

We have had a great deal of difficulty this past week as we dealt with flooding of our property and basement. My husband believes we have things under control. He is greatly encouraged by the use of an old pump he found here at our 150-year-old Estate.  This will help manage the problem with water in our dirt-floor-basement as the grounds are still quite moist. We are seeing ongoing flood watches for our area, but all is well.

We will have to do some grocery shopping and stock up on water.  We would like to get a great deal of spring water for drinking.  We do not trust the well water yet and plan to wait until things settle down from the flooding in our area. Extra expenses after a trial are always difficult but I will remember to pray each day to ask the dear Lord for our daily portion.

There is a great deal of yard work to do to fix the grounds. The driveway is damaged as well as some of the front and side property. This type of work is overwhelming when combined with normal maintenance required this time of year. With our health difficulties, we will just pray for strength and work at a slow pace.

We do not think there is any major damage to our home. But we will see when winter comes and it is time to turn on our furnace (which is in our basement). We are hopeful that everything is okay.

The heat this summer has been an ordeal for many of us this season.  We have more hot days here than I ever remember from previous summers.  I have found it so nice to just have a little bit of mint chocolate chip ice cream on a sweltering evening!

The excessive rain has been absolutely lovely despite the flooding.  It makes the grass and trees and scenery so pretty.  It has given us relief from the heat.  Yet we are thankful the flood of water has gone down.

We are weary but not discouraged. Better days are ahead. We keep walking forward, with a happy heart, a trusting soul, and a great faith in our Heavenly Father.

Blessings

Mrs. White

Good morning! I'm so happy to read your post this morning. I've been praying for protection over you and your home.

Cleaning up after a flood is a slow and tedious process. I hope the temperatures remain mild.

We live in a rainy area of Texas and because of that, the grass and trees are a vibrant green for many months. That's the upside to having lots of rain :)

I hope this weekend brings you much peace and dry weather.

Take care and God bless you :)

Wow! I can't even imagine flooding! I live in an area of the country that gets virtually zero rain during the summer months. I wish you could send rain here and that we could send sun-filled skies to you. Thank you for visiting my brand new blog. I appreciate your visit and your lovely comment!

Blessings to you!

I wondered if the flooding had affected your well water. I am glad to hear that things are less stressful than they were.

Oh Mrs. White, my heart so understands the feeling and the work, and the mess. We had water in our home twice from the river and it is truly a mess. I remember seeing something floating and I picked it up and it was my baby's ultrasound photo...I was horrified. I so know the feeling and I know what it is like to hold hands with God and hang onto Him. I remember being in a little leaky skiff with our girls and baby and just trying so hard to enjoy the beauty of nature etc.

Praying for you and your husband. God be with you and give your strength and the mind of Christ, praying you can get that basement dried out completely and soon! I'm so happy to hear the old pump is working, such a blessing. Your attitude is beautiful.

Love, ~Amelia

So thankful your husband was able to put the old pump to good use! Praising the Lord for that good news, and will be continuing in prayer for your situation, that the Lord would help you to figure out how to take care of things after the flood abates. Blessings to you dear friend!

Hope things are improving day by day with your situation. I know the Lord will give you wisdom as you look to Him each day. So thankful that your husband found that old pump, knew what it was and that it actually worked when he put it to use. There is a great deal to be said for knowing how to do practical things.
