How to Mend Towels

Sewing box on our table.

It is common to go out and buy new things whenever something breaks or is falling apart. We watch for sales and bargains and then buy what we need. This is wise unless there is no money available. In this case, it is important to know how to make do and mend, making repairs (without cost) to the best of our ability.

I have a set of bath towels that I bought many years ago. They are great quality but, as with all things, have worn out over a long period of time. I would love to get new ones but there is not any money available. Since I really need the towels, I only have two options. I could either keep using them as they continue to deteriorate. Or I can mend them and prolong their use.

This morning, I made a video showing how to repair the towels, by hand-sewing.  If you would like to watch, here is the link:

I do a lot of mending. A stitch in time saves nine!

A good idea, towels are expensive items to buy. If I have a towel that is beyond mending, I cut it into smaller pieces to use for those odd little jobs, cleaning the car, rubbing down a window etc.

Very nice video. I am reminded of the old adage: Use it up, Wear it out,Make it do, or Do without. I try to live by this all the time.

Thank you for that tutorial. Mending a towel by hand is best, since I jammed my sewing machine once before with heavy material. I also watched folding your fitted sheet...that is a problem for me but you did it well. andrea
