A Thanksgiving Morning Giveaway

Colonial ice cream company promotion, 1920. LOC

I got up early this morning to put the turkey in the oven. I always try to do it myself before anyone else wakes up. I want to surprise them. I want to say, "don't worry, it is already in the oven!" It is a challenge because I am not strong enough to handle the turkey alone.  Thankfully, someone always steps in just in time to help me. I can barely lift the turkey and have a great deal of trouble getting it ready and into the oven. So I am thankful for the help.

Years ago, my mother and father hosted our Thanksgiving dinners here, where we all lived together.  We had three generations (then four generations for a short while) all living in this house.  That was a long time ago and there are many good memories of family, tradition, and the love of home.

When I first started making the turkey myself, I would get advice from my mother.  After she passed away, I remembered what she taught me.  Year after year, I still remember what she said and am able to prepare the turkey each Thanksgiving. I am grateful.

I wanted to write this post much earlier this morning but have not had a chance until now. I am slowly setting the table and getting things ready in a way that reminds me of "playing house." I am just making things look nice at a slow and steady pace.

Preparing the table for Thanksgiving dinner.

There will be three of us for dinner today.  Those who cannot be present, will call on the telephone. It is such a blessing to see and hear from family on this special day.

I am going to my parent's house for Thanksgiving. I will celebrate with them, my, husband, and my brother. My son and his family are unable to join us and this makes me sad, but I still plan to have a joyful day. I have made pumpkin pies, cranberry sauce and dinner rolls for our meal. We plan to visit other family tomorrow evening and have more pie. No shopping for us. We have never done this. Instead, I want to spend time with my family while we are still all here. email: anderson1672@frontier.com. I love to read your posts every time I see them in my inbox. Thank you. Your messages are always so relaxing and peaceful to read.

My husband and I were scheduled to be alone this Thanksgiving since our children and grands went other places; however, God had a cousin of mine to message me yesterday just to chat and I found out she had nowhere to go today so she's joining the two of us. It will be good to visit with her.

Happy Thanksgiving, Mrs. White! I have such fond memories of gathering around the table at my parents' house both as a child and an adult. I miss them dearly as I do my grandparents who would sometimes visit with us for that holiday. May yours be a blessed one this year. My email: marthaorlando@gmail.com

There is so much to be thankful for in this difficult year.
I will be spending the day with my widowed mother and my brother-in-law's stepmother. We are all bringing our specialties to the supper so no one person has to do all the work. Mother will make the turkey and I will carve. We will also have cranberry sauce, stuffing with diced apples from her tree, gravy, yams with peaches and cashews, pumpkin pie, green beans with cranberries, mashed potatoes, etc... Our extended family spread to the four winds once Grammy passed. I still remember all the recipes I learned from my family. My aunts each had their contributions and I loved to sit at the counter and watch them all move in the kitchen like dancers, never in anyone's way. All three of us will have leftovers and one of my coworkers has ham for her family and will bring me the bone. So next weekend my apt will smell of beans with ham and cornbread. Another thing I learned from my darling mother. I learned turkey soup with the leftover turkey bones from my father. It is delightful and will be made tomorrow with plenty of turkey and veggies. I am single and live alone so I share my creations with coworkers and my mother with plenty left over for the freezer when I need a quick meal.

Happy Thanksgiving to all,
Englisch is not my first language so excuse me for making mistakes.
Here in the Netherlands we don't celebrate Thanksgiving.
Therefore we invented our own tradition to come together in the midst of november and on the, what we call, third Christmas Day.
We have six children with their partners and lots of grandchildren and our first great grandchild. Some also with their friend. Not Everybody is able to come on those two days. Their doing their best. Everybody brings in some sort of food.
I take care of the soup and the cakes. We have a very small house but we fit in. We enjoy being together, play some games, making memories

Happy Thanksgiving! I am so thankful for my salvation through Jesus Christ alone! I love your books and have purchased almost all of them. I’m not sure how I missed this one, but am excited to have a chance to receive a copy. micheleneugebauer2015(at)gmail(dot)com (written out to avoid spam)
