A Winter Morning in Vermont

Season of Peace

We have lots of pretty snow here in Vermont. It is so peaceful and pleasant. Our wood stove is roaring and keeping our home cozy. I love to get up early in the morning and putter around the house. I love to look out the window, while it is still dark and just take my time welcoming a new day.

I usually sit in my favorite chair, near the hearth, and read, while sipping on hot chocolate. Somehow, I become cheerful and happy and patient! This makes it easy to face the day and all it's trials.

Mr. White woke up early and we sat at the table and talked about dreams. We love to discuss our old house and the kinds of projects we'd like to do. But I look at the ripped linoleum in our kitchen and see the walls that need painting and I am content. Why change anything? I love this humble place!

Soon the children will be awake. I am looking around me and I see clean and tidy! I love to wake up to a neat home! There is nothing for me to do, but read and wait for the children to come smiling into the room!

I hope you have a lovely day of happiness!

Blessings
Mrs. White

Ripped linoleum? Faded paint? I agree with your assessment 100%. Pffffft. It's the love that makes a home beautiful, and I suspect yours is in great supply of love.

The older I get, the less I care about the material beauty of my surroundings. And the more I strive to create beauty in the moments and the making of memories.

This morning there was frost on the ground here on eastern Long Island. I(55) had my (every 5-years)mammogram appointment. Our son(17) watched the granddaughters- taking a break from homeschooling. On the way there I stopped at one of those traffic lights with a camera and watched as a long funeral procession went through the red light- every one of them will get a $50 ticket. The camera was flashing constantly. I was home in two hours. I always get a letter within a few weeks to have one of those painful second mammograms. It was a beautiful sunny day. The way Long Island is designed we often see funeral processions. Maybe that's a good thing.

Mornings are such an important time! When I was a young mother, I used to think that I would somehow miraculously be able to sleep late and still get everything done that I would normally do if I had gotten up on time. But, each day still only holds 24 hours! :) My mornings, especially right after rising, are the most structured part of my day and the only moments that I really have any control over, as we never know what will come up, do we, and it's important to be able to put aside what I thought I needed to be doing for something more important. I really cherish my morning Bible time, and it is so important in my attitude even if I don't always finish it with a conscious awareness of something imparted to me ... it's like eating good food. It fuels me for the day.

Some days at the end of the day, I think, "If I had known what this day would hold I don't think I could have gotten out of bed." Isn't it a blessing that God doesn't let us see in the future? He takes us on, moment by moment.

I love your comment about the torn linoleum and walls that need painting. I've been kind of fussing about some walls colors and just not feeling right about any particular color because we have so little money to spend I would hate to make a terrible mistake. And it's been so long since we painted, I'm concerned it may seem I don't care about my home. But your other comment about being neat and clean ... that is what I can do to make the difference.

Thank you for your encouraging blog. You have such a flair for imparting a warm-hearted appeal in your words.

God bless!

I can't imagine snow on the ground already. We are in N FL and the temp was in the 70's today. We're getting a cold front in the next day or two though, so I am looking forward to that! We have a gas fireplace that we run and it is nice to dim the lights and sit by the fire. :o)

Oh how I wish we had snow on the ground down here in the good ol' deep south. I would love to visit Vermont one day. Until then, I will keep visiting through your blog. Beautiful post.

We had a 3.9 earthquake south of Long Island yesterday morning-about 10:45A.M. People on the south shore felt it. We live closer to the north shore. Our dog(a Rhodesian Ridgeback) barked. I told my son that there must be a UPS or Fedex truck nearby. Then we heard. Some people along the NJ and MA shores felt it. We had one 18 years ago- I remember.
