The Comfort of Home

American Homestead

There is a sense of warmth and security when we are at home. I love to clean and decorate and polish and create a kind of loveliness. I remember watching old movies and when a couple got married, the young wife would set up the curtains, and put decorative cushions on the couch. She had vases of fresh picked flowers to brighten things up. She would dust and remove cobwebs and delight her guests with freshly brewed coffee and some kind of baked treat. She provided comfort to her family and friends.

There are so many things we can learn which will make our homes pleasant. We can learn to be motivated and set up cleaning schedules. We can use frugality and planning for shopping and meal preparation. We can find things to do, like mend and knit during those moments when no one is watching television; and we are all sitting together in the living room and visiting. We can keep creating and keep our vision of home and our ideas of homekeeping alive and vibrant.

May your day be filled with the pleasant scent of freshly baked treats and the sound of a joyous welcome!
