Tea Napkins

Grandbaby's Tea Set and handmade napkins at Mrs. White's House

Last month, I found some beautiful Christmas Fabric.  I planned to make myself an apron.  I have been working on it, little by little, over the last several weeks.  I hand-sew because it is easier for me, even if it takes much longer than a sewing machine.

Part of Mrs. White's Apron, made with Christmas Fabric

I thought this material was so pretty and cheerful. I wish my local store carried more, but they only had about 2 yards, and then it sold out.

My three -year old granddaughter saw me hand-sewing the  lovely material and asked me to make her something with it.  I would have loved to make her a little apron, but there just was not enough material.  However, there was enough for some tea napkins.

Grandbaby loves Grandmother's napkins. I keep a pretty box of them on a hutch in our front parlour. She helps me set the table for meals, and for tea time.  I have plain linen napkins, paper ones, and some homemade ones.  Her favorite napkins are pink linen which were a gift from a dear friend.  Whenever she reaches for those, I hear her older brother call out to me, "Me'me!  She is getting into your tea napkins again!"

I thought she would love a set of miniature napkins for her toy tea set, which is kept here at our house.  The Christmas fabric would be lovely for this.  There was just enough material to make four little squares.  All I had to do was hand-sew the hems around each of them.

I put them in a Christmas tin, along with her plastic tea set.  She can use them anytime she likes, and then put it all away in the pretty tin.

I have not finished my apron yet. Baby's tea napkins came first. (gentle smiles)

Blessings

I love to hear of how you enjoy your grandbabies, your homemaking, and your sewing. I tried searching for the photo, but didn't find anything similar. I thought it might bring up the fabric online. Is there a brand or a pattern name on the selvage? You might be able to find more online.
Blessings to you my friend. If we were close, I'd be sharing tea with you.

Sweet pattern on the tea napkins. Hope you'll show us the apron when finished. Tea Parties are such fun especially when the Hostess is three!
Blessings,

Mrs. White,
This is so sweet! I always love pretty napkins. I look for old table linens when I go to the thrift store. Sometimes I can find a really pretty tablecloth, might have a stain or two, for 99cents. I can work around the stains. They make pretty napkins and aprons. :)

Thank you for your inspirational blog on homemaking. I truly enjoy reading your mini adventures in life.

My grandchildren have a tea set they love to play with too.
Some toys just never go out of style, do they?

What a wonderful and sweet idea! I am thinking now of sewing some for my granddaughter's play kitchen. She is a missionary kid in Germany and they would be easy to ship to her. Thank you!

I bet she just loved her little tea napkins! I love the idea so much, I will need to make some for my little one. I do enjoy hand sewing little doiles with some lace, it is very relaxing. I may also try to do a few of those as it is too cold to be in my sewing room! But you better get that apron made for yourself as Christmas will be here again in a blink! (Smiles)

Mrs. White, What a wonderful idea to make festive little napkins for wee tea parties. I have a 3 year old granddaughter that LOVES tea parties. Will have to find some pretty little material remnants and see what we can come up with. Hope you are all surviving the cold winter months and enjoying many tea parties. Blessing to you, Karla in IL.

Grandbaby's tea napkins are so sweet and I'm sure she loves them, especially because you made them for her. I like cloth napkins too but sometimes the pretty paper ones are necessary, aren't they? My mother used to hand sew everything. She was quite a seamstress and although she always wanted a sewing machine, she never did get one. She had her mother's but it didn't work. It was kept instead as a sentimental piece. Thank you for sharing and joining me today. Blessings...Sandi

What a lovely idea, Mrs. White! Many years ago when one of my granddaughters got a toy kitchen, she liked to wash her dishes. I made her some child sized dish towels to dry the dishes with.

The tea napkins would be wonderful to make and give when gifting a toy tea set to a child! Maybe even package them in a tin as you did with the set your granddaughter keeps at your house!
