A Mother's Day Giveaway

Working in the kitchen, 1920's (LOC).

It is so precious to be a Mother. To take care of children and grandchildren is such a blessing. I like to think about the old-fashioned ways of keeping house and preparing meals. There is a great deal of love displayed when one is feeding the family and providing a comforting home.

When I was a child, Mother's Day was a special day of getting dressed up and attending church. It was a day to show extra kindness and just appreciate the family.  It felt like a holiday and a time for rest and good food.

To help bring a bit of cheer, I would like to offer a Mother's Day gift.

Sadly, I don't remember very much about Mother's Day from my childhood except mothers wore red corsages if their mother was still living and white if their mother was dead. I have to say for myself being a mom has taught me more about myself and selfishness, devotion, and how to pray for prodigals and love them all well. Being a grandmother and now great grandmother has been a great gift from the Lord. Blessings and happy Mother's Day!

I appreciated my Grandmother very much. She was sweet, kind and very hard-working. I loved visiting her every summer. We would go to her church, and it was a wonderful experience. I went to my first revival at her church, and loved it.

Ah, my favorite memory of my Grandmother's house was homemade bread and butter. You see, my mother did not bake bread nor buy real butter, so it was a real treat to go to Grandma's house and have real butter and homemade bread. It felt like we were cherished and loved when we were there. That's the way home should feel like, cherished and loved. I strive to make my home as welcoming as hers was.

We used to not celebrate Mothers day growing up. It all changed after I became mom myself. I started appreciating and being very grateful for all the things my mom did as I was growing up. This weekend I am planning to surprise my mom with some fresh flowers and her favorite treats along with a hand written card. Hoping to meet my sister too. I love having a day to celebrate lovely moms and grand moms. What a blessing to have them in our lives! Happy mothers day!
