Like the Mothers Before Me

Billy Graham with His Four Children and Wife at His Home in North Carolina
Ruth Bell Graham and her family

I stayed up late last night waiting for one of my children to come home. I sat in the quiet parlour near the fire and prayed. I prayed for all my children. It was a peaceful time.  It had been a day of worry. These worries come from thinking about the "what ifs," which is caused from a lack of faith and trust in God.

Then I started thinking about the Mothers before me. These saints of old were strong in Christian courage. They were dedicated to living a godly life. This made me remember the example of Ruth Bell Graham. She was an amazing inspiration to so many!

I want to share a couple of quotes from 2 of her 5 children:

"My mother was always bright and sparkly, even when she worried or would get only an hour or two of sleep at night.  She might have been worrying about a student at college or a member of her Sunday school class - or me, like when I was growing up and wouldn't get home until 4:00 a.m. Mother never went to bed until all of us children were back in for the night. She has that bright, cheerful personality, and I believe it comes from her daily walk with the Lord." - Franklin Graham

"I believe that our heavenly Father, our Savior, saved my mother from loneliness because of her daily walk with the Lord Jesus, He was the love of her life. I saw that in her life. It was her love for the Lord Jesus; with whom she walks every day, that made me want to love Him and walk with Him like that." - Anne Graham Lotz

Mrs. Graham left quite a legacy. Her influence, writings, and life will continue to inspire many generations of mothers.

Sparkly in the midst of worry is a lesson I could learn.

She was an amazing woman. I once read a story by her son Franklin in which he said he was always such a stinker. And as a young boy caused his mother much frustration, especially since his father was gone a lot. One time he said they were on their way to town and he kept arguing with his sisters and wouldn't stop, so his mother stopped the car and put him in the trunk for the rest of the ride to town. When they got to town, she went around and let him out of the trunk. :)

How inspiring! I wonder what my kids will say of me? Not that I was always bright and sparkly, although I want to be. Time re-focus! Thanks for the reminder. Stopped by from the Hop :O)
